I use DirectCD to format CD-R disks so I can move data across just like moving files from one folder to another.
Problem is that many of the CD-R disks I use to store files become unreadable after a time - the CD burner just can't access the disk. Result is I have to use CDRInspector program to resurect the files but many files have lost most of their data & so unreadable and many more become readable but lose their file name & so are "unnamed-0001, unnamed-0002" etc.
The problem is apparently that files become "overlapped" somehow.
It usually happens after I've added sets of files over a period of time.
Direct CD is much simpler than using multisessions with Nero because I can only read the files in the last session - I can't access files from earlier sessions with Nero.
Any suggestions why Direct CD formatted disks fail?

I use DirectCD 2.0 [old but reliable].

I'm not 100% sure of this but CD-R's using multisession do not need to be formatted, only CDRW's.

I say not 100% b/c I can't remember ever formatting a CD-R.

You also need to download Roxio's UDF reader so that the data is readable on optical drives.

I use DirectCD 5.1 (Easy CD Creator 5)

You do need to format to use Direct CD but not when you use Easy CD Creator for multisessions.

There is no such thing as muntisessions when formatted for Direct CD.

That's not my problem - it's that the darned CD-R's begin to stuff up after I've added several lots of files at various times.

Sometimes my LiteON DVD will not be able to read some CDRW's, but when I stick it in my burner, it reads fine! The problem is that there are just too many files.

I disabled my DirectCD from starting up.

I can actually stick a CDR/W in my burner and I can just copy and paste onto it, but I need to activate DCD to eject the media.

There's a problem here. You should access files in all sessions. Do you "continue multisession" in the multisession options ? Or "import last session" in EasyCD Creator ?

I should clarify something.

I know that DirectCD is for packet writing and I believe that packet writing is different than multisession.

If you don't "finalize" the multisession, then when you finally do that, you should be able to have access to all the sessions.

CDR's tend to be VERY unreliable when doing packet writing. You should stick to multisession using a mastering program or use CDRWs.

CD-R's for packet writing?

I thought that was "impossible".

Erased data doesn't appear, but the space it once took up is irrecoverable.
