Problem when converting .rmvb to xvid avi, then to dvd

I've been trying to burn some .rmvb files to dvd using the following method:
I use winavi to convert the .rmvb to an xvid avi....
then i convert the avi to dvd using dvd flick.
The only problem is upon play back, there is some red/green discoloration at the very top of the picture.
It seems to be that it occurs upon the initial conversion from .rmvb to xvid avi.........
any solutions?

i have to convert to avi first so i can add my subtitles with a different program. can winavi add the subtitles? if so, i can't find the option to do it. thanks,

nevermind. i figured out it like automatically grabs the subtitle file......i'll try it this way and see if they come out better.

Winavi is supposed to automatically add the subtitles if the video and subtitles file were named the same and put in the same folder, but I never got it to work.The subs were displayed mid screen or parts missing. Here is how it works for me:
You need to download VobSub. Name the video and the subtitle exactly the same, e.g movie.rmvb and movie.srt
Use RMVB subtitler muxer(a free application ) to mux the subtitles in the RMVB conatiner( should take a couple of minutes).
Once you have VobSub installed, when you start the conversion with Winavi(using the new RMVB file with the subs muxed in), VobSub will launch automatically and add the subtitles.
It works with no problems for me.I have done at least a dozen RMVBs this way. Let me know if you're having difficulties.

So I am assuming Winavi did not pick up the subs by itself?

When you preview the movie, double click on VobSub green arrow. You can change subtitle font, colour.
With older versions of Winavi, muxing the subs in the RMVB container was not necessary, VobSub would launch if the subs were external, named as the video and placed in the same folder. It doesn't with the latest version, Winavi 8.
