Hi! I´m new with these boot discs, so i want to know what kind of files i can burn in the cd/dvd:s? Must it be .ISO always? I just burned Tomb raider anniversary 4,36GB NRG file with IMG burn and it doesn´t worked.. Did i something wrong? I got maxell DVD-R 4,7GB. My PS2 version is 30004 PAL "FAT". Anyone knows that if this swap magic 3.8 is compatible with new games? I didn´t found these info from earlier post, sorry for that.. Thanks!

Tomb Raider since it was first released on ps one has always been a problem to copy, backup or burn. I haven't found anyone who can help me copy Tomb Raider 2 for ps one yet - still looking.
I have swap magic 3.6, but my playstation cannot boot either of the discs to the "load program" screen, they stop at "swap magic version 3.6 plus screen."
I have ps2 version: 39001
browser: 1.20
cd player: 1.20
ps driver: 1.10
dvd player: 2.12u
Any help will be greatly appreciated. thanx.

Did you back this up yourself with Nero, cause you can choose ISO image file also in Nero. But I like to use read mode in Imgburn to backup my discs.
Some games if they are too large will need to be rebuilt to work with Swap Magic.
You can just use the expert tool v2 from alucard.cc.
Just read #11 of this faq, and then click expert tool 1.5, the instructions are right below it.
I have tomb raider anniversary and when I put the backup disc in my PC it shows it at 4.37GB.
Works fine on my V7 and V14 PS2 NTSC burned at 4x speed and using SM 3.8 USA version.
Did you select Normal, then PAL to boot your game.
@ilcmdme
Is this the first time you are using Swap Magic 3.6 Plus.I have not used that version, has the disc stopped when that screen comes up. I am not sure if you are supposed to insert disc at that screen or press start to go to next screen.

No, I used them on a slimline before and it booted to the "load program" screen, but now I am using a fat v7 ps2 and it stops at "swap magic 3.6" screen and yes the discs stop spinning at that point. I don't know what to do next?

hi again! i solve the problem! it´s just dirty laser i think because when i move the ps2 to tower position the dvd start loading. In the game it works fine and no problems. only if you go back to main menu in the game it goes harder to read dvd.. and when you move vertical to horizontal and back it start reading again. :) Is it easy to clean that lens?

Guide to take apart PS2.
Just be very careful so as not to damage your reset cable, when taking cover off, and putting back on.

Does your V7 have a fliptop or are you using the slide tool?

Neither, I just took the top off of the console, the top of the drive and use the white cap to hold the disc in place. What are you driving at?

Well I figured if you had a fliptop and perhaps it was too tight, that maybe the disc wouldn't read properly. Do your other discs read fine doing it that way.

Glad it works for you now.
Yes some games like FIFA 2006 and others that are 4.37gb may need rebuilding to work properly with Swap Magic.

If you just do a search for each game title you will usually find your answers as to what problems others had and how they fixed it.

Yes PS2 DVD backups are usually an ISO image for it too work properly.
Just use Imgburn to backup your Originals, and then use it again in "write mode" to burn them. You can also use Nero if you like to burn your ISO image.

But what if i had .NRG file? Should i convert that to ISO file? Can i burn any other files than ISO for playing ps2 games?

Well if its a NRG file you burn it with Nero, but you said it doesn't work. What I would do then is mount that NRG file with Nero, then open up Imgburn and read the mounted file and it will save it as an ISO.
Then burn the ISO with Imgburn.
Is the Tomb Raider Anniversary a PAL or NTSC. Make sure then that you choose Normal, then PAL when you load this in SM 3.8
If that still doesnt work you then need to rebuild the Tomb Raider so it has a smaller Image size.
Read #11 of this guide. I would use the expert tool, and the instructions are right below it.

I burned that NRG with ImgBurn. The game is PAL version. When i start the game from SM 3.8 menu pressing X, game start to load and it is then all black in screen and when i turn otherside my ps2 the game loads again to the menu. And in the game, there is lot of troubles loading new areas.. Is this the reason i burned the NRG file with ImgBurn and not with nero?

Well I find backing up to an ISO file is best.
You could try a Swap Magic TOC refresh to get this to work. Full instructions here.
1.Boot from swap magic.
2.Wait for swap magic menu to show up,then
EJECT the swap magic by hitting EJECT on your PS2.
3.Put an ORIGINAL PS2 DVD with LARGE TOC in and use the eject button to get it in the drive. Something like GTA San Andreas, or Vice City
4.Wait for it to stop spinning.
5.Do whatever swap method you use to get the Tomb Raider Anniversay DVD in.
6.Press x to load it!'
If that doesn't work you may have to rebuild Tomb Raider so it will work for you.
The disk size then will be smaller, and should work better with Swap Magic.
Do you have any problems with any other backups or originals playing. The reason I am asking is to make sure you laser is fine or perhaps it needs cleaning.
You can try using a can of air and just blow it out good, or take it apart and clean it following these instructions.

I think the Jack Daniels would have been better than dish detergent.
You need to use like a rubbing alcohol, you can get it at any drugstore.
Use it with a q-tip to clean the lens.
If you still have troubles you need to try out other DVD's or backups DVD's to see if same problems.
Then you will know if its your laser going or that its burning issues.
As I also said you may need to rebuild that NRG file so its smaller.
