what is the best encoder for avi to mpeg? i have tried tmpgenc it works but audio/video not in synch ive tried canopus encoder which takes 4ever and sometimes audio/video not in synch plse help.

TMPGEnc is definitely the way to go.
If you are having sync problems with the audio this is usually pretty easy to remedy:

1) Open the file in Virtualdub
2) Under the audio menu select "Full proccesing"
3) Under the audio menu select "Compression" and set it to "PCM" (no compression)
4) Under the File menu, select "Save to WAV"
5) use this uncompressed WAV file as the audio source in TMPGEnc
