Hi all
I have an avi file that I converted with covertxtodvd and though it plays fine on the laptop in the dvd drive, the panasonic dvd player in my living room plays it back with a line on the left and it flips up the screen. The colour is a bit off as well.
I have tried the dvd in two other machines, one it works in with perfect picture, but the player is buggered and has no sound, so I don't know if it has sound or not. The other machine said disk error. My other computer read the disk and had sound, but the screen was all blue, green and red.
I have looked all over and assume that this is an issue regarding the region? The avi is R5 based. I am in Canada.
Next step, I ran the video file through shrink, hoping to make it region free...same thing showed up when I played it on the dvd player.
I tested the player, other dvd's that I backed up today work fine and same with converted ones that I did earlier.

I am so frustrated and confused now that I am begging for help.

If the problem is PAL/NTSC encoding, running through DVD Shrink will not change anything.DVD Shrink can remove region coding from store bought DVDs(this is not the case since the DVD is made by yourself with ConvertxtoDVD), but cannot convert from PAL to NTSC and vice-versa. You have to reencode to a different fps setting. Make sure you choose the right setting in ConvertxtoDVD, NTSC ,when you convert.

Ha ha. love your signature.

It is a bit funny, I went into convertxtodvd just before I came back to see if there were any responses, and I was checking out the settings. I found that under tv format it said automatic, so I changed it to NTSC and am trying another conversion right now. Will let you know WHEN it works...notice I did not say IF...LOL
THanks!!!

I don't have experience with ConvertxtoDVD( I use DVD Flick and always set it to NTSC), but it is possible that if set to automatic, will keep the same setting as the source file, and if your avi it is mostly PAL, then will convert to PAL, hence your playback issues?!
