i just purchased a new sony vaio with win vista and thru ethernet cable would like to connect to my hp with xp and have tried the ip address with no results can anyone in detail help me??????? im stuck and would like to transfer files THANKS

it sound like you have not put them into a shared folder that you need to make , also dont type the ip of the laptop use the laptop name that you give it. then you need to makesure they are on the same workgroup.
