VLC player Help?

Not sure if this is the correct Forum, but here goes,

Ive just learned how to use VLC player to give my XP Pro DreamScenes,

Fantastic,
but...I cant figure out how to get the program to startup on login, and run the vid I want it to,

Can anyone help?
I rekkon if I put VLC player as a shortcut in startup it will start the player, but Im not sure how to get it to play a video as default when it opens...
