Hello all,

This is my first time here after having a crack at the tutorial regarding 'Preparing MKV Content for Xbox 360 Playback'

Now, this has all been going fine... my particular mkv is identical in format to the example in the tutorials. I've demuxed the H264 video and the multi channel audio AC3 file from the container and I now want to convert the AC3 to AAC using MeGUI as described.

Now, I'm pretty sure I'm doing something stupid here, but following the instructions up to the point where I queue my audio file for processing - I hit start from the Queue tab in MeGUI and nothing happens. Well, to be precise, a screen very briefly flickers and then the console just reports a status of error.

Here's my log:

Looking for job processor for job...

Processor found!

------------------------------------------------------

Starting job job1 at 23:20:42

Starting preprocessing of job...

Preprocessing finished!

successfully started encoding

Processing ended at 23:20:42

------------------------------------------------------

Log for job job1

Error:

------------------------------------------------------

End of log for job1
------------------------------------------------------

It seems that the Nero encoder is just not firing up. I've set the path in the program options and also updated my files.

Any ideas, have I completely missed something here?

Thanks in adv.

Just making sure, but you actually have the nero encoders right? NeroAacEnc.exe?

yes i've solved the problem. I was getting errors in when processing the audio into aac as well.

I downloaded from http://kurtnoise.free.fr/mp4tools/

mp4box 0.4.5-dev
FAAD-2.5

and changed the program paths to these new codecs and it worked with no errors

I had the same problem as the OP, which was disheartening since the tutorial up to that point had been astoundingly useful.

The Nero codec is in my meGUI folder (and the neroAacEnc program path points to it). I tried makkena's suggestion above but had the same problem.

Any other ideas why it won't start the conversion process?

Here is how to solve this:

(note, I also tried installing Avisynth, but I'm pretty certain I already had this installed so I doubt it had anything to do with it).

1. Open the settings and program paths dialog inside MeGUI
2. Go to the installation folder, and into the tools directory

(for me, the Tools directory was completely empty)

3. For all the programs you need (I took them all), from the program paths dialog, create the directories the files would've been in if they had been installed
4. Close the settings dialog and do an update
5. For all entries in the list that doesn't have a checkbox, select it and right-click and select Force (re)install
6. Click update

This will download and install all the missing files that, at least for me, was missing in the installation file.

After this, I could convert the file without problems.

Thx a lot lassevk, that worked for me too...
I did try installing only avisynth before, but that did not help.

So even though the change in the audio file worked fine, and I succeded in creating a final mp4 file (tested with VLC), after I splited the 4.1gb file in two mp4 files with hjsplit software, my xbox 360 cannot play them...
anyone with any idea why these two files are not supported by my x360? or tips?

Just as an update of what happened to me and how I fixed it when I had this issue.

I followed lassevk's instructions and updated all of meGUI files. Although I did need to fix some stuff as the files were not linked correctly. It still did not work UNTIL...

I followed Skunk3r and installed Avisynth as well.

After that all fired up no problems, so for anyone having issues you might want to make sure you do both if one doesn't work.

Posted this in another topic, but it's as valid here as there...

This is how I did it.

Mine had video in MPEG4/AVC/h.264 and audio in DTS.
You can of course change the batch-file to suite your own needs.

Ok, sorry for that.

(I personally hate when I have to jump around 10 threads before finding the one everyone is referring to.. That's why... But I've learned my lesson.. Angry forumers are no good.)

i'm having a completey diferent issue. When i remux files with yamb and change the extension to .avi, it works perfectly in windows media but not on my xbox. Then when i split the file with yamb, the LAST file it splits out ALWAYS works on Xbox, however none of the previous ones work. The best i can do is watch the second half of the movie.

The error im getting is that the file may be corrupt and a new codec needs to be downloaded. however, the files that do work on my xbox are exactly the same. I've even tried splitting it down extremely small. any solutions?

Hi,
I have the same problem with the XBOX only playing back the last part.
I have tried three different ways of converting files. Gotsent worked on a couple of MKV's but choked on more, only outputting the audio I think. The "old" manual way appears to work every tme and produces output that plays well in windows - sometimes the audio goes out of sync though. and I also tried the batch file as suggested by elgholm, this worked well and in the long run looks the way to go for me - IF I can get the XBOX to play the files back.
What is going on?
All the video I tried appears to be h264 L4.1.

Hello again.

Nice to see that you got it to work with the batch file I created some weeks ago.. I've also found that some files, possibly after splitting, does not work on the Xbox360.. It's all kind of strange since one file that DO work has exactly the same properties as one that DOESN'T.. I haven't had the time to figure this all out yet, but if I do, or one of you guys reading this does, please let me know so I can update the batch-file appropriately.

Ok so i contacted the creator of Yamb from his site. He claims its a bug and that he's trying to fix it. Yamb is just a gui for mp4box so it might have something to do with that.

Also, the afterdawn method claims that xbox cant play ac3. Will the dts method work on xbox. afterdawn says to use megui and the nero mp4 encoder to convert.

Hi,
Interesting to note that it coulb be an issue with MP4BOX. Anyway I have just tried GotSent v.23 final and my first test indicates that this older version works.
I'll try some more files.
Cheers

Thanks for the tip too. Xenonmkv does work well, I like the way it tells you the file won't work if there are too many reference frames. I found that Ripbot264 sorts that, takes a long time to run though.
