I got a set of DVDs that are Region 2 (UK), and want to copy them over to make them region-free. The disks are 2 layers. I ripped two of the discs with Decrypter in File mode, then opened the files in DVD Shrink and did an analyze and re-encode to ISO, then burned the ISOs to blank DVD-Rs using Decrypter in ISO Write mode.

When I attempt to play the discs on my DVD player, it looks like an old TV with the vertical hold knob poorly adjusted. I can see images that should be there, but it's as if the screen is flickering vertically. I put the same DVD into my computer's DVD drive and tried to play it in Media Player - I get normal video but no audio at all.

What am I doing wrong?

Shrink will make the files/movie region free, but the video format will still be PAL, which is ok if you live in a region 2 specified area and/or your player plays that format. If not, then the files/movie will need to be converted to the NTSC format in order to play well.

My suggestion is to buy and use convertxtodvd
http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/

A FREE tool that will also do the conversion is vobblanker

Use Anydvd and believe

DVDFab HD Decrypter (free)... http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm

nur0mncr,

Another alternative is the freeware, DVD Flick. It can convert the video standard from PAL to NTSC and vice-versa.

As for the WMP issue, you need to have MPEG-2 decoders installed in your machine. To rectify this, you can install FFDSHOW or one of the many available codec packs out there.

Thanks guys!

So, with DVD Flick, would this be the sequence?

Rip the files with Decrypter
compress to a single DVD with Shrink (storing output as files)
convert with Flick
burn DVD

DVD Flick seems to be unable to open DVD files. How would I use it in this context?

Alternatively, with VOB Blanker (and Shrink and Decrypter) what is the sequence from original DVD to burned copy?
