A few weeks ago, while copying 6 movies, using DVDshrink, my computer had a fit. My only choice at the time was to re-format and re-install everything again. After reading about DVDshrink on these forums, I have a question.

The majority of comments made here relate to DVDshrink using Nero to burn the data to disk. My question is, what happens if you have half a dozen different(freeware) burning software installed on your computer. Will DVDshrink default to Nero or will it have problems choosing which software to use, and mabe freezing the computer in the meantime.

If you have Nero selected in DVDShrink then it will "default" to Nero. I would suggest using Imgburn as your burning program, tho.

The linkage between DVD Shrink and Nero is nothing more than an exclusive added perk. Think of it this way: Nero is a "secret lover" of DVD Shrink. All others bear no relation to the latter. If you have a comparable and more handsome burning software, then you can marry that up with DVD Shrink instead without alimony. ;)

I have:

ImgBurn- Mainly for 1:1 copies like Re-ripped dvd-5 to dvd-5 and Dual Layer backups.

Nero 6.6.0.14 OEm demo disc. Don't download the INCD packet.

Dvd Decrypter-don't use it as much since Imgburn, just another ripper to get through crc errors.

Sonic-Don't really use it anymore

CopytoDvd: Had it for a while but I deleted it because of the lack of use.

No conflicts for me using the dvd shrink autoburn with nero6 process.

I know Nero and Roxio can conflict. INCD of Nero and Roxio's Drag to Disc- they like to take over a machine.

Dvd Shrink will max out your processor, especially during the analyzation and encoding stages. It puts a heavy toll on your resources: Ram,Processor. Best to close out everything, turn off all background programs, and no multitasking. Because of that processor running 95-100%,then heat can be an issue. Install some extra fans in the tower. Also keep the inside of the tower clean. I've even seen cheap/crappy powersupplies cause many issues during dvd-ripping.

My backup PC had major issues when I started backing up dvds. Black screens,MiniDump errors, blowing ram and ps's out right and left.
Now it runs much better after the reformatting, extra fans,Round cables instead of ribbons-to help the airflow, and a decent 450w Antec truteck PS.

Thanks for the info. My computer has a AMD X2 3800+, 2Gigs ram and a 535W Enermax PSU. Side window removed (for now) and its sitting in the basement. So far, works great. The kitchen computer has a AMD 4000+ single core with 1Gig ram and DVDshrink takes almost 3 times longer on this computer than the dual core. Using a lite-on CD burner and a lite-on DVD burner. Both came with Nero Essentials. Also have Nero 7 Ultimate in case I need it.
