article published on 15 February, 2008

If iSuppli's figures are correct, it would put a decent gap between the Wii console and the projected 25.7 million units for the Xbox 360 console (by end of 2008). The Wii is no stranger to popularity, being present ... [ read the full article ]

That number would be bigger if they would keep more in stores. I can't find one.

The wii.... well, its a good beginner's console (Not recommended for anybody 11-12+ who like their gaming normal. The graphics arent really that good, and some games arent much fun. The 360 and PS3 are better.... I don't like the wii

not really any suprise here. wii had the cheapest console + zelda at launch to drive demand up then they had mario galaxy (highest rated game ever) now they have a new mario kart and super smash brothers coming out to keep these things flying off of store shelves. I also noticed they didn't report projections for the ps3 and kind of dismissed it as "lagging behind" even though it sold 10 million faster than the 360 and has outsold the 360 for about 3 months now.

The report cited the low price of the Wii console, bundled with its ability to attract more than traditional gamers and its innovative gameplay as the reasons for its predicted continued success. It is competing with two systems that have focused more on high-performance hardware to produce the generation's best GFX experience and also double as home entertainment hubs amongst more attractive features.
Saying all this just goes to show you that its pretty clear cut that if you keep things simple then you will eventually come up on top.
