Excelent this New interface should solve the issue's with drive overhead and overheat problims. With the new interface the drive could easly obtain a write speed of 8X and higher.

Also the post seams to state that its a Hybrid Player This is good for those of us who sided With HD-DVD and still have there discs, and it dosent hamper with the future development this is good as well.

I'll wait several generations before investing in a HD burner. Besides, the media is still waay too expensive to justify the cost..

Ah, one slight problem, it only reads HD-DVD's, it cant burn them. It can only burn BluRays Disks.

Don't mean to sound like fan-boy nor rude but you really gotta feel sorry for all the 3rd party companies who were developing HD-DVD products at this point, it is impossible to recover after loosening WalMart entirely.

So ......If sometime in the future, a blu-ray device will burn at 8x speed...........

The Quality is really no better on either format , against each other that is .

So the BIGGGGGGG , advantage is that the disc is blue ?????

carp624- look at the spec chart it combines the best of the old with the new, it has write support for Blu-Ray DvD and CD, and it can read almost any format,

Blu-ray & HD-DVD are contenders for the new format, they both do the same thing they increase storage capacity to store more Hi definition
content, in other words more space better picture.

I would look at getting it if my laptop (C2D 2GHz|2GB|x1400) wasn't the only computer that could run Blu Ray and HD DVDs. My quad fails at it with only a Nvidia 6800 inside, My Celeron, hehe no more needed, and my P4 HT 3.6 isn't fast enough to do it without lag (Tested with the 360 HD DVD Player)

All my computers are at XP but the Pentium 4 doesn't have enough power to run HD DVDs. A dual core is what you need. No single core runs HD DVDs perfectly.

Your P4 HT 3.6 is above the Min Req. you need a new video card thats for sure. if you like Ati get an X1650 there like 70-80 dollars and are dame good entry cards. if Nvidea you deal there 7800 are going to hit a price drop soon nockin'em down to 90-100 or lower. i still recommend the x1650 wont break your wallet, and has a good set of features.

Iv read thats actualy based on the movies and how optimized the HDi Script is, and from other souces The Movie player.

if you dont have it already Try Vlc works like a charm for me on HD-DVD playback

Actually the video card I have inside is the x1650 512MB version. I know that it is my CPU lagging because the useage is constantly at 100%. I didn't know that VLC did HD DVD playback, I am currently using PowerDVD Ultra. I bet VLC will have a better performance.
