A question about whether I should go through the trouble of installing "Wii Video 9"?

I recently stumbled across a exe Installer freeware that will convert any video format to work on the nintendo wii. Called "Wii Video 9", I believe it will work. But I have not had any firmware update's installed on my Wii. Due to the fact that I do not have broadband. (It's a location issue mixed with finance problems.) If I decide to use this program to convert my video's over to Wii format. Will I be able to play them on my Wii console? Any words of advice would be helpful. Oh by the way. I had a little problem downloading the exe installer for "Wii Video 9". I tried downloading it from the red kawa sorce site that automatically puts you through to a CNET downloading site from there. It would download half then speed up to the end of the download simulating completion. Then when I tried to open it. It was corrupted. So I found this one on Digital Digest which seems to work okay.
