MPEG4 in Video Folder??

This as probably been asked before, but why can't I just make a MPEG4 of a movie, and put it in the Video folder of my PSP. Why does it have to be named a certain way (M4V.....) and put in the MPRoot folder? Is this the only way the PSP can read the file? What's the use of the Video folder then if videos can't be stored there?

ok depends on ur firmware from 3.52m33 up the video has to go into the video folder and u can rename the movie like iamlegend.mp4 the .mp4 must be there other wise the psp won't play it.

ok..I have the latest firmware (3.90), so I can just ut the mp4 in the video folder, correct?? No need to use the MP Root folder then??

correct and u can name the film anything u want as long as .mp4 is at the end
