I was wondering if there are any video converters with multicore processor support , I was using windows dvd maker and its slow as hell. My cpu is dual core 3.0 ghz and it took like 2 and a half hours. Can anyone recommend something faster to convert and burn?

Try DVD Flick and set it up to use the 2 core for encoding.
