Memorex DVD-R SLUS_200.90 on HP dvd400i

Whenever I put in a blank Memorex 4x DVD+R it appears to have 41.7MB already written on them, and the disc is named SLUS_200_90... why shouldn't it be blank so I can write on it??

My mistake I was looking at the drive, but as is I still have a problem, that the discs aren't recognized on my burner, and therefore I can't burn to them.

i have the same burner and was kind of confused with your problem too. that burner only reads DVD+R discs not DVD-R discs and same goes for RW discs.

yea i learned that after i opened a 50 pack of dvd-r discs, but i taped them up mcgyver stylee and they replaced them for me at best buy :o

That HP 400 is a newer model, but HP has a habit of needing firmware updates almost straight out of the box. I would check their site first for that. What software are you using that doesn't see the blank media? They usually ship HP with Roxio and RecordNow. If you have Roxio, Open Drag to disc, insert the blank. If it sees the blank it will ask you if you want to format the disc for that program. Then just cancel if it asks you that. Drag to disc is for data storage. Its just a check to see if it sees the disc.
