Okay, I'm sure this is a nooblar question but it's been on my mind a lot lately.

Simply put, Can I turn my xbox 360 into a full on desktop computer?

I don't care for making burned images or copies of games, I get bored of them within a month anyways, but if I could hook a keyboard & mouse up as the primary inputs to the system and have a copy of like XP home on it, that would be a Reallllly good comptuer and would cost around $500-$600 total instead of $1500.

No. you cant run unsigned code on the 360 so it would not be possible to use as a desktop computer. there was a hack to run linux on it but it isnt useful or practical for a desktop computer. you can build a realy nice computer for about $600 that would be better than a 360. if you are interested in that check out the other pc hardware section.

Every thing but the processor that is. The xbox 360's processor is a triple core running at 3.2 ghz and from what i've looked at online, equivalent ones are pretty expensive...

the cpu in the xbox is not actually that great. it doesn't have out out of order execution and it is power pc. it would not be as good as a newer cpu like the e8400 or the q6600.

oh yeah... it does say its a power pc and i from what i picked up from various sources, they aren't good. Thanks for the info i was contemplating the advantages of the unused 360 to the "fast" processor and crappy ram...

I read that the 360 can't execute code not signed by microsoft, therefore you wouldn't be able to run any other processes on it making it impossible.
However i know the ps3 can run linux quite well, if you wanted to turn a console into a pc that would probably be your best bet. But like the others said, you can build a much better computer for 5-600 (if you have all peripherals already i.e. monitor keyboard, etc.). I did this, buying most off my parts off newegg and tigerdirect. You just have to watch for rebates.
