What a great forum. I'm looking for your very excellent suggestions regarding the best ways YOU have found to cut short scenes from the middle of a DVD movie.
This is not the same as cutting from either end to shorten the file - there is lots out there about that already! No, all I want to do is remove the odd (objectionable perhaps) segment from some movies I own, to make them more 'family' for instance. What bits there are about this already are somewhat confusing to me.
I know how to get the DVD files to the hard drive. At this time, I am extracting with DVDShrink to create VOB files. I thought I might then convert VOB to AVI (MPEG4-2) so any editor could load the movie. So far I have tried editing the scenes out with Virtual Dub 1.5.6, and that works really great - I can delete segments between key frames.I like Virtual Dub a lot, it is easy to understand. Then hopefully I will be able to write this back to DVDR with acceptable loss.
I am sure that my proposed method is all wrong, and so I completely open to try anything simpler or better that you suggest. Please please don't make any suggestions that you have not actually worked out and tested to completion - this is tough enough as it is when you are starting from scratch like me. Please include exact versions of programs, assume nothing.
From reading around, I see there really is a need to clarify this very basic process, and this thread could benefit many people like me who just want to cut a scene or two from ripped VOB files.
Thanks!
Looking forward to hear what you have to suggest.
