HDMI Switch Box won't work

I purchased a HDMI switch for my Sony DVD player HDMI upscaler. Why won't sony products work with HDMI box. It will only work when I hook the player up to the TV hdmi behind the tv. I only have two hdmi hook up s behind my tv and have three items. PS3, Sony DVD HDMI upscaler, and my HD converter box. What type of switch box I need. I took back the one I had.

I also have 3 HDMI devices and only 1 HDMI port.

I use this 5x1 HDMI switch and it works well with no problems with the Sony PS3

System:
Panasonic Vieral LCD
PS3
Apple TV
HD-DVD

All connected by HDMI.
