I want to copy a dvd i bought and let my daughter play it on her new dvd player :-)
Im no good at this sort of thing and really need help.
The dvd is 6.60 gigs and my dvd record and rewrite are only 4.7.
All i want to do is copy the film and have no titles in it or other crap! i just want the film to fit on a 4.7 gig dvd disk.
Ive also heard the disks have copy protection ? anyway could you please help me out with this headache please ?
Ive tried various software and its driveing me crazy.
So please can you speak to me in a way i can understand thats easy ?
Thanks Beatdis

1st off check your daughters model no. of stand alone DVD Player here to check that it will play either DVD-R or +R (RW)

http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers

I use these for back ups:
DVD Decrypter
DVD2One
Nero

DVD Decrypter (Movie Only)
Rip all the VOBs that are 1Gb & the title set IFO of the same VTS number.
A typical VIDEO_TS folder of a DVD is similar to :

VIDEO_TS BUP 16,384
VIDEO_TS IFO 16,384
VIDEO_TS VOB 43,008
VTS_01_0 BUP 77,824
VTS_01_0 IFO 77,824
VTS_01_0 VOB 1,695,744
VTS_01_1 VOB 1,073,565,696\
VTS_01_2 VOB 1,048,565,696 \ <-- This is the Main movie
VTS_01_3 VOB 1,048,565,696 /
VTS_01_4 VOB 589,365,248 /
VTS_02_0 BUP 18,432
VTS_02_0 IFO 18,432
VTS_02_0 VOB 43,008
VTS_02_1 VOB 6,014,976

So the VOBs would be automatically chosen by Decrypter so you'd just need to also select VTS_01_0 IFO 77,824
Rip... (copy protection & region will be removed)

DVD2One
Choose the source folder (where you ripped files to)
Select the destination folder (empty)
Movie-Only from drop down box , 4472mb as filesize output & constant compression if the movie is only 2 hrs or so but if over 2 hrs 30mins you might wanna change to variable instead.
Next...
Choose the title set , should only be one line if doing movie-only but it is always the longest time - eg: 1:58:06 (whereas sometimes there is 0:12:36 title which maybe extras)
Next...
AC3 6CH , whichever subs you want , Angle 1
Start.

Nero 6 Ultra
DVD-Video
Add files from destination to red VIDEO_TS folder & hit burn icon.

JOB DONE

Thanks herbsman
Ive done every thing youve said and it worked ok :-)
I tried one on my dads dvd player but it just opened the drawer and wouldant play.
I noticed it has audio-ts and video-ts, why dont they have just one folder ? i looked in the audio-ts and there isant any files, so why dont they just have one video-ts ?
I think my dads dvd player is just funny ? becouse he had a copied film before and it played ? maybe i did something wrong?.
Anyway thanks for the reply

Yes there are DVD Players that are a little fussy about how the disc is backed up.
For instance my sister has an old LG model that will not play +R media & the back up has to have a menu (go figure) !!; )
