i followed step by step from here...http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/petesguide2.html...dvd seemed like it burned a message came up and said it was done but it wont play on my comp or my xbox 360 wich both play backups???????

Please give more information.
What program did the actual burning?
What name brand of discs are you using? What burning speeds are those discs rated? What speed did you burn at? What is the name of your burner? Is the firmware up to date?
I can go on and on but for now, can you provide this information?

i used nero 8 dvd shrink dvd 43 and dvd identifier this is what the step told me to do. i have tdk-dvd-r 1-16x 4.7gb burned size 4360mb as the step said, i dont know what speed and i dont even know how to check what speed it was. but i followed this step by stephttp://www.dvdplusvideo.com/petesguide2.html

First off, get rid of DVD 43.
Download and install DVDFab HD Decrypter. Rip your disc with that software. Open the folder of your ripped files with DVD Shrink. When you're ready for burning, use ImgBurn. These two programs can be located in my sig. Burn at 8X.
We still need the name of your burner and the firmware number. ImgBurn can provide that information.

How fast did you burn it?

What's the brand name,model#,and current firmware version of your dvd-rw drive? Neroinfotool will tell you.

What is the title of the Dvd?

Backup entire disc or reauthor for main movie only?

Please explain the backups that played on your comp and xbox 360.
1)Were they made by your burner or a different burner?
2)Were they made with a different program/burn engine?
3)What MID code is on those backups that played ok? Neroinfotool will tell you this as well.

Compatability issue?

Also try some plus format media. Booktype them if you can-depending on what model of burner you have.
