Hi, I have a Gateway laptop, and I know that the DVD Rom drive isn't one of the supported 4 or 5 drives out there, but I used FriiDump to rip a couple games and it worked (WiiDump2.0 wouldn't work.) I got the correct file size and everything. So I burned the games and took them to a friends house to try on his mod'd Wii (D2B) but neither one worked. I burned one on a -R Verbatim (Wii Play), and the other on a +R Verbatim Lightscribe (Petz Dogz 2.) Is it more likely that my discs aren't good, or that the rip didn't actually work correctly because of the DVD drive I used?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated! I want to mod my Wii but not until I can get my own backups to work. I can purchase an 8164b drive, but if I don't have to it would be nice... and it seems like the DVD Rom in my laptop is working, but like I said maybe not. Thanks!

Your first response was correct. You don't have the correct drive to rip. You have to use the supported drive to rip.

But why would the DVD Rom work and the file size show up correctly and everything? I just don't understand that. And in FriiDump it said it was successful and to report my DVD drive to them for their compatibility list or whatever... I would think that if the DVD rom drive wasn't compatible, it wouldn't work at all. I tried quite a few DVD rom drives with both WiiDump and FriiDump and this is the only one that would actually work (or at least seem like it was working.)
