Hey Guys,

I'm having trouble backing up my Universe Season 1 DVDs. I've tried the newest dvdfab & anydvd combined with fixvts & vobblanker. Then ran through shrink and burnt with nero.

Every attempt has yielded the exact same result. When I put the copy into the dvd player it starts playing at just over 4 minutes. The forward and backward buttons seem to 'hang' the player. Plus the menu button does nothing at all and eventually the player just hangs. I get no errors at all while using the above mentioned programs.

Any ideas?

Try playing that copy in your PC and use the drive that burned it. See how it compares to your stand alone player that shows the issue. Also test in other stand alone players,pc drives,or game consoles to see how they handle it.. We need to verify if the issue is drive or disc related.

Then post back:

1)Brand/Model#/and current firmware version of your Dvd-rw drive.
2) Mid code of your blank media- Neroinfotool will answer all those Q's for you.
3)How fast did you burn it?
4) Can that backup be ripped while using dvd shrink by itself? Sometimes anydvd can do some screwy things when it doesn't need to be enabled. Dvd shrink can rip the majority of dvds out there.
5) Entire disc or reauthored?
6) Sticker labels on that backup?
7) Has that player played your backups before? Has it played other people's backups?

Many things can cause those issues, just got to narrow it down.90% of the time it's the stand alone players fault. There's a lot of picky players out there.

Seems like it's skipping over the first chapter. Could be a bad cell at the beginning. Try removing a few frames (1 or 2 seconds) from the beginning of the movie.

99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.

Hi and

1) output shrink files as iso
2) burn with Imgburn instead of nero. Imgburn free from www.imgburn.com

1)Brand/Model#/and current firmware version of your Dvd-rw drive.

Lite-On LH-20A1S, Firmware was 9L02 but I 'just' updated to 9L08

2) Mid code of your blank media- Neroinfotool will answer all those Q's for you.

Strangely enough, Neroinfotool crashs when I run it.

3)How fast did you burn it?

Max Speed. (never had a problem before?)

4) Can that backup be ripped while using dvd shrink by itself? Sometimes anydvd can do some screwy things when it doesn't need to be enabled. Dvd shrink can rip the majority of dvds out there.

Nope, same issue.

5) Entire disc or reauthored?

Entire Disc

6) Sticker labels on that backup?

Nope.

7) Has that player played your backups before? Has it played other people's backups?

Yes, it's a very good player. Philips DVP-642 (Divx capable)

I'll try again using IMG BURN and see what happens. If it dosen't work I'll test the DVD in different players.

Oh, and PowerDVD plays the files perfectly on my computer.

Thanks for the help guys, more suggestions are welcome.

This free program will answer the 1st 2 questions:

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_..._identifier.cfm

Once you find the MID code, click the clipboard and left click/paste it into your next post.

I can't help much on the nerotools crashing. Anytime I run into nero6 issues, I remove nero, run nero cleantool 6,and reload nero back onto the pc again, leaving out the INCD packet. That always took care of the issue.

Issues at the beginning: I've seen encryption do some screwy things is some the Reauthored backups. I cut out all beginning trademarks and it usually takes care of it.

Oh, and PowerDVD plays the files perfectly on my computer.

Played the files or played the disc? Make sure you play the disc.

Got it.

Thanks guys.

It was either the firmware update or using imgburn that did it.

I'll know after some more testing.

DVDFAB -> Shrink -> IMGBURN = Success.

I have a feeling it was Nero...

I was kind of hoping for more of a challenge for you all. Oh well, I'm sure one will come along.

Nero can be flaky. You can try removing it,running the cleantool, and load it back on again. I'm not sure what version you got. Here's cleantool 6 and 7.Just match it up with what you're running, unless you got Nero 8.

ImgBurn is very good for DL backups.

Burn On!!!!!

Quick question.

In the above guide (link) it says to set a custom compression size of 4350mb. Why would you do this and not just select dvd5/4.7gb ?
