I just bought a new DVD Recorder, while using DVD Decryptor to rip a dvd i noticed that the I/O interface was set to SPTI and not ASPI. Am I right in thinking that with the ASPI mode ripping should be faster?

I installed a ASPI layer and selected this mode in the DVD Decryptor menu, but when I began a rip the speed was as slow (or fast) as the SPTI mode (around 3.0x).

My recorder is a new one (Iomega Dual DVD, NEC 1300a), should the ASPI mode not be faster and should my recorder not be capable of a faster ripping speed? I flashed the firmware to remove rip limit on recorder but the max speed is still around 3.0x, which is the same as my Hitatchi GD-7500 DVD-ROM?

My system should be capable of faster.
(1 GHz, 256mb memory, 60GB H-Drive)

Any help in improving speed would be appreciated.

Your System isn"t very fast so i don"t see why you expect Faster ripping, Your DVD rom Drive should in theory be faster than your DVD Burner at ripping because DVD-Rom drives have a Faster read speed than Burners...I have a 2.53ghz P-4(OC to 2.8ghz) and 512mb DDR 333mhz and 280gb of Drive space and a Sony DRU-500A DVD Burner and a 16X DVD-Rom Drive and I can get about 7X speed with the DVD-Rom when ripping Dual Layered DVD"s but only 2X speed with the Burner, But with single Layered DVD"s I can rip at up to 12X speed with the DVD-Rom but still only 2X speed with the Burner..I also use SmartRipper with ASPI Ripping, So It seems that you are Ripping at the speed that you should be, But you should do all of your Ripping with the DVD-Rom because you don"t want to wear out the DVD Burner By Useing it for Ripping and Becides the DVD-Rom Should have a Faster ripping speed but the Fact that Both drives rip at the same speed seems to say that it is the Max Bandwidth you can Transfer through your IDE....have a Good One...Cheers

PS: Try Smartripper you might get better results but if you get the same Ripping speed with Smartripper then that is Probably your Limit....
