I recently purchased DAVID THE GNOME from Amazon.co.uk, and I'm looking to convert it from Region 2 PAL into region 1 NTSC. I followed the guide (http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/how_to_convert_a_pal_avi_into_an_ntsc_dvd-r_page_3.cfm) to a tee, or so I thought, yet it still won't convert. My logfile is below.

kzm007 ,

Did you rip the movie first? You need to rip the movie first to extract the VOB files you need to be inputted into ConvertXtoDVD.

Not the second time, which is what the logfile is. The first time I did using AnyDVD and the preview video looked corrupted, so I cancelled and redid it directly from the PAL DVD.

Try ripping the movie in .IFO mode using DVD Decrypter. Here's the guide. You should end up with a single .IFO file and multiple VOBs.

The input file contains no image and no sound. Maybe the file is corrupted or unsupported.
The problem lies in the way the movie was ripped. It doesn't seem to have the correct structures to be processed properly.

Below are excerpts from mine. Distinctly,I see a major discrepancy in not only the entry, but also the number of streams. Did you select all files and dropped them in CX3 or just the .IFO? Did you receive any errors when you decoded the DVD using DVD Decrypter? Did you set NTSC as the output video standard?

I received no errors from Decrypter, and set NTSC as the output (I'm converting from PAL to NTSC). As for the files dropped, I dropped all of them the first time. The second time, which I just cancelled, I only dropped the .IFO files. My reason is that the video preview in ConvertXtoDVD is exhibiting the same picture errors.

Does this movie play fine in your computer? Get K-Lite Mega Codec Pack v3.7.5. After that, try it again, but this time drop just the .IFO.

Drop just the .IFO file in CX3. Let it run through, and see what happens. Ascertain that you save the output onto your hard drive first. Validate that the file has been encoded correctly by playing it in your media player. This way you don't gamble away your media.

Just decrypted again; got "Failed to set data for 'DVDDecrypterPlayDVDOnArrival'" as an error when I closed the program...not sure if this matters. It happens every time, I just noticed it, though.

This is how it's typically done using DVD Decrypter and AnyDVD.
First, you need to go to DVD Decrypter's Settings to tweak few things.

What you're doing here is relinquishing DVD Decrypter's ability to decrypt to AnyDVD.

This is AnyDVD doing its magic.

Now, on to decrypting the movie in IFO Mode.

Next, Stream Processing. Here, you can leave out unwanted audio streams and subtitles.

Once the entire process is complete, you should end up with a single .IFO file and multiple VOB files. Now, you can fire up CX3 and drop the single .IFO file in it.

What made you think that movie is still in PAL form?

Could you clear up something for me? Are you saying that you tried inputting the the .IFO file in CX3 already to be converted to NTSC, and yet you still wound up with PAL? I feel like "the blind leading the blind." And if I had known you had CloneDVD along AnyDVD, we would've just taken that route instead. I'm now currently trying to convert a flick from NTSC to PAL (don't have Region 2) in CX3 just to see if it'll work.

Sure, all I mean is that I have a region 2 PAL DVD; I want it converted into region 1 NTSC...or at least NTSC alone, region-free. So long as it plays on a US DVD player, I'm happy.

So, as it stands right now, you've already ripped the movie to your hard drive, correct?

Ok. So now, load the VIDEO_TS.IFO into ConvertXtoDVD.

Do you mean the ENTIRE Video_TS folder? Every file, or just each .IFO file or what?

No. Just ONE VIDEO_TS.IFO; by design, it should load the entire movie.

The DVD is a television series, though. Wouldn't I theoretically need every IFO in order to load all the DVD information?

Have you tried it already? Like I said, if you drop the VIDEO_TS.IFO ConvertXtoDVD will knowingly load the entire movie; this file contains all the information and data structures of the entire movie. Do this and tell me if its been ingested by ConvertXtoDVD. I want to continue making advancements. The only way to achieve this is by trial and error.
