Ok so based on that last topic I was just in it got me to thinking. What way do you have your system setup and why. I personaly have my system resting on its side. I found that it scratches cd's alot less and puts less of a weight on the bottom of the system (not that that matters any). Plus it looks pretty on the shelf.

Horizontal is definitely the best way to avoid scratching, but vertical keeps it cooler. I bought a vertical cooling fan with the controller holders on the side to prevent it from tipping over and it's the best way I found. I had the GameStop one, without the holders, and it would tip over and scratch and ruin the disk.

My system is set up vertically. I know the MS25 samsung drives were alot more prone to scratching discs (as i had one just eat the disc to hell) than the MS28 or any other drive for that matter. If you have it standing vertically it needs to be on a solid spot that doesnt endure alot of vibrations and rocking.

i think after taking it apart, horizontal is cooler(literally)
i put it on a ramp so the rear of the xbox is higher than the front knowing that heat travels up.
To make sure its efficient, i removed the white plastic covers and it now looks like a metal box.
Ive had mine since launch and not a problem yet.

nah dude, get the cooling system with the controller holders on the side and it prevents the tip overs. Trust me a LOT cooler this way than horizontal.

I disagree man, just putting on the side versus flat, mine is a LOT cooler on the side (even without the cooling system). Each their own.

The big vents are on the sides so i would think it gets more air on its sides. And not to mention it sits even

Well a major problem with the vent on top (when it stands vertically) is that the dvd drive & hard drive block most of the ventelation.

Thats why you buy a vertical cooler system so it can breathe on the bottom. It's like when you place it on the horizontal, you block a ton of airflow there too. I can let people know, laptop coolers are useless in helping it cool.

It seems like every cooler on the market just causes more problems than they fix. Either by stressing out the consoles fans or actually restricting airflow itself.

My cooler (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Psyclone-Xbox-360-Chill-Station-PSE36/sem/rpsm/oid/157964/catOid/-16538/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do) does great, I tried everything before to keep it cool, laptop cooler, etc. Honestly, I think the thing that helps cool it the best too is putting a desk fan behind it. My cooler plugs into a usb jack so it doesn't draw a ton of power like those Nyko Intercoolers, people are nuts to buy those.

with this fan it doesnt matter, vertical or horizontal, your xbox 360 will stay nice and cool!

Yeah, it's nice, it's not a really powerful fan though. I just like it because I can stand it vertically because I think that position is cooler and the holders prevent tipver. Well worth the $15, plus shipping, or free shipping after $25.
