I am about to buy the xbox 360 and plan to mod it. I do not plan to go online with it just for offline use. Is there a big disadvatage to the arcade version VS. the PRO version. Can I add a hard drive later to the ARCADE version if I want to?

just the harddive, search ebay for a 20 GB HD and see if it would be cheaper buying it through there or just buying the Pro. You wanna have a HD for sure, even if you don't go online.

Why? the only reason you need a hdd is if you want to store media on there, or if you want to put dlc from live on there. if he's not going on live then the only reason would be to put media on there or play certain xbox 1 games. Even then you can just plug your mp3 straight into the usb port for music. Also apparently the 360 will only play divx when its connected to xbox live. The only reason you would need a hdd is if you wanted to play select 360 games. Even then a used xbox 1 is still cheaper than a 360 hdd.

darkfire, you must not play that many games, nor do you have 9 people that play "your" xbox 360 I guess. ;)
Memory cards don't hold much info, you need atleast a 20 gig HD for your saves if you plan on playing a shitton of games. If you have the whole family (+their friends) playing on it (my two 360's are community property, I share), then it's a must.
That's just me though.

also in the pro pack you get wireless pad instead of wired, and ethernet cable, hd cable and a headset. but if your not going on live you dont really need the ethernet or headset (apart from if u wanna play system link..)

I have a premium system myself (i play on live and download demos etc) but I keep all my gamesaves and my gamerprofile on a 256mb memory card that i managed to get my hands on (the ones that come with the arcades lol). The only stuff I heep on my hdd is a few demos and some arcade games from xbl and a bit of downloadable content. I have about 20 360 games and have about 30 gamesaves on my memory card. Gamesaves are anywhere between 50kb to 2mb (excluding halo3 which is a whopping 10mb as well as a few other games). But lets just say each gamesave is on average 500kb and each gamerprofile is 5mb. with 9 gamerprofiles (9x5=45mb) that still leaves you with 186mb (a 256mb memorycard has 231mb of space available). That is equal to 372 gamesaves then divide that by 9 = 41.3 recurring. So that means each person can have approximately 41 gamesaves on a 256mb memorycard in |cl|'s case. Then take into account that not everyone wants to play the same game, so you could have even more games. You can also buy another memory card if you manage to fill the first one up.
Long story short if you only want to play offline arcade is the way to go. If you want to play on live or if you want to in the near future then the premium is a must.

Arcades come with a wireless controller, the core pack comes with a wired controller.

Its not being cheap, its common sense. If youre not going to play on live give me 3 good reasons why you need a hard drive.
I myself work in retail and i sell 3 maybe 4 xboxes a day. First thing I ask them is do they want to play on live any time in the near future. If not then get the arcade. If they wanna play on live then get the premium and if they plan on downloading heaps and heaps of stuff then get the elite. Surprisingly alot of people would rather buy the arcade and then grab a good game to go with it.
Also |cl| just out of curiousity how many times has your 360 rrod'ed??
