Picture problems while palying back ripped DVD files

Hi everybody,
I'm from germany and new to this forum with my problem: I've got a selfmade DVD from my friend and I actually don't know what he has done: The menu's audio track is LPCM, the main movie comes with MPEG-1, SmartRipper tells me everything is NTSC, but importing the ripped VOBs into my authoring tool, they're identified as PAL!?!?!?

Anyway, I smartripped the whole DVD and burned all the files to a DVD. After adjusting my standalone player to convert MPEG to PCM everything works fine except the picture of the movie. Every couple of seconds one can see a horizontal flicker in the top half of the screen! Forgot to mention: There are no problems on my notebook. Somebody out there who can give me a hint?
