I have searched the forum, google, yahoo, etc and for the life of my I cannot find the simple "advantages" of Linux on a PS3 vs the normal operating system by Sony. The best I have found are Linux is like having Windows XP on your PS3 when you cannot have XP on your PS3.

That sounds cool, but what are the practical advantages?

Are their disadvantages? Will the BluRay player still decode everything except DTS-HD? If sony devolops a DTS-HD firware update (God in Heaven please make them give this to us!) will Linux users will get it? Etc.

Forgive me if this is common knowledge or already discussed, I couldn't find it.

well hi i am new but i know a few things about Linux on ps3 so here goes

you can install vlc player (well known file player for pc) free of charge has endless dll files to help play ur music in most formats and basically any video format.

the desktop look (i guess people prefer it)

some nice apps like calculator calenders ect...

and the not legal ones like swish army knife (blueray dumper)
(only use ur own legally bought bluerays only info above is just to help people ok

and to have a great computer system on the go ( after all its easyer to move a ps3 to somewhere than move a desktop )

depending on which version you pick up like yellow dog <-- best i think or ferndo core 5-6

hello, i would really appreciate if you could help me with my situation. When i go to install "linux" onto my ps3 i do not no were to save the file. I have a psp memory stick in the ps3 slot but you can not save the file onto this. I was wondering if you could help me so i no were to save the file on to install it. Thanks

o sure no problem i will help but there is no need this is a sticky on the top of the fourm for installing linux so just follow it step by step if not then i will help ok

Yes i understand but, on the ps3 when you are going to install "linux" were do you save the destination to ?
