Xbox live NAT problem

Hi, My xbox360 can connect to xbox live, but when I run the connection test it says my NAT is moderate, and sometimes strict.
What I want to do is make my NAT open. It doesn't matter if I direct connect my xbox to the modem or not, it's always moderate.
I have my xbox360 wired to my modem (linksys befsr41 v4.1).
I heard somone mention something about port forwarding, but i'm not sure how to do this.
Any help would be great, thanks.

go to Xbox.com, go to the support main page. type Xbox Live Ports in the search feature.
Take those ports and enter then, set the protocol to what is specified.

Then you put in your IP Address and click on enable and save the settings. But most newer routers do not need ports forwarded. Also for it to work you usually have to set up a static connection (an IP address that never changes)
check out portforward.com and look up your router.

Other things to try is chaning your set up. If you set it up manually (static) then try doing it automatic (DHCP).

Try turning off UPnP

Try setting up your DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) settings. You need to enter the IP Address of your Xbox 360.

Just do some looking around on those things. Also make sure the router is Xbox Live compatible and you are using the firmware listed on Xbox.com for your model

had the same problem with my netgear router last fall, all i had to do was update the firmware after spending several hours on netgears POS website to find it. there were several newer updated FWs but i had to install each of then in order as they built off of one another. by doing this it solved all my problems, went from a moderate/strict NAT to an open one.

p.s. by updating the FW it should set the necessary settings for LIVE as default that way you do not have to anything at all in the settings portion of it, (open ports, upnp, etc.)
