Ok, so i moved from 3.80 OFW to 3.71 M33-4 on friday, and since then i've been doing quite a bit of reading about the PSP, and custom firmware etc. I still have a few questions though...
1. How can i convert my .iso files to .cso to save sapce on the mermory stick?
2. I dumped my nands earlier today in case of any future problems...whilst dumping, it came up with to two errors daying something like "bad dump at page 22xxx..." what does this mean? Also, is it ok to store the nand dump on the Magic memory stick (i am keeping it loaded with all the MMS data in case i ever get bricked/semi bricked), or should it be copied to PC for safe keeping?
3. What (if any) are the benefits of moving from 3.71 M33-4 to any of the newer firmwares? What extra features will i get, and will i have any compatibility issues with the .iso/.cso files?

1. get UMDGen as it allows you to open .iso and 'save as' .cso - really quick and easy
2. 'bad blocks' are normal for nands, many psps are shipped from sony with bad blocks, a few bad blocks is quite normal and the psp will skip them naturally and run fine. you should store the nand dump on the magic ms so you can write from it in an emergency... store a copy on pc also.
3. a move to 3.90m33 will allow i) newer games to run (although currently all games run on 3.71m33), ii) skype and internet radio
there are no issues with compatibility BUT there is an issue for some msticks with a lag on 3.80/3.90m33 since sony 'optimised' the ms driver...:) D_A has released a method of running 3.71 fatmsmod.prx on these firmwares to fix most (all?) issues with this

Thats great, thanks for the info!! Is there a tutorial anywhere for doing the 3.71 fatsmod.prx??
Also, i read a thread detailing what all the different options in recovery mode do. Are there any negotive side effects of enabling the "UMD MODE" option to allow the playing of iso's without a UMD in the drive, such as lag increase etc?
Another question...does changing the processing speed have any major effects on gameplay, and again are there any negative side effects?

Increasing the speed does not seem to have any long term effects but it does burn battery power a lot faster.
I always have my PSP set to No-UMD. lag can occur with fake memory cards with low read/write speeds and about 99% of games can be played with NO UMD.
Lag can occur for a whole load of reasons. FW, compressing a ISO to much to many to list here.
Guide to recovery menu here this guide only covers 3.52 / 3.71 but with some very small changes for the newer versions 3.80/3.90.
PsP#1 : 2.01>3.71M33-4>3.80 M33-5
PsP#2 (Slim) : 3.80>3.90M33-2 All hail the UPMS Stck
If you need a UPMS Stick go here and then go here :-) *As recommended by January39
thats great, thanks for the reply!
When i am changing the settings so that no UMD is required, do i select the option that says Sony NP9660 -NO UMD- the M33 driver -NO UMD- or OE isofs legacy -NO UMD-?
Also, if i upgrade to 3.90 M33 how to i put the fatsmod.prx into use (on a slim psp)?
you can use anyone of the no umd drivers (some work better than others on some games)
The file is here and if you read the read me it will also explain how to install it but I[ think you just run a eboot and it does it for you but read the readme first
