I used to be able to convert with no problem but now i've used several converting programs and sometimes 30% to 50% or even nearly done and I get an error message and can't convert. Does this sound like maybe a bad program or something with my computer.

This program has lots of problems. Give DVD Flick a try.
99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.

Thanks. I just failed with Avi2DVD. It said it would work - the ISO was there. But the DVD did not play.

I failed with DVD Flick too. The DVD plays on my computer but not on my DVD player where the sound (and perhaps the picture too) sort of stutters.

It might be the way you burned it.
What burning program did you use?
What brand of disc did you use?
What speed did you burn at?
What is the name of your burner?
Is the firmware up to date?

> It might be the way you burned it.
Thank you.
> What burning program did you use?
Img Burn. DVD flick started up Img Burn for me.
> What brand of disc did you use?
"Spin X". I have been having good results copying DVDs using DVDshrink onto the same media.
> What speed did you burn at?
x8
> What is the name of your burner?
LG super multi, not sure of model number, from about two years ago.
> Is the firmware up to date?
I don't know I am afraid.
Thanks again for your response.

Open ImgBurn, select tools > drive > check for firmware update.

I'm not familiar with this brand of media. Download dvdidentifier (can be found using the search function) and see what those code out at and post back...if you don't mind.
It's a good idea to consistently use good blank media. Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim.

Thank you again,
Both Img Burn and the media are working well for me in other ways but
Using DVD Identifier
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:CMC MAG. AE1]
Disc & Book Type : [DVD-R] - [DVD-R]
Manufacturer Name : [CMC Magnetics Corp.]
Manufacturer ID : [CMC MAG. AE1]
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4.71 GB (4.38 GiB)]
And as for firmware
Sun Aug 14, 2005 7:50 pm LG/HLDS GSA-4167B
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B - DL11, DL12, DL13 / OEM DJ11, DJ12, DJ13
Region Free (RPC-1) firmware is available here. Patched by The Dangerous Brothers.
RPC-2
I have not updated the firmware. Should I trust the "Dangerous Brothers"?

CMC MAG is evil, nasty, cheap media. Dump it and use the good stuff i alluded to in my previous post. You won't be disappointed.

If there's an update available...i personally would do it. But...updating firmware for burners can be a little vexing. So, it's up to you. I've never had a problem updating mine.

I'm having a problem with the sound when converting avi to iso with dvd flick. I have the newest version of Imgburn which converts it to the iso image and burn with DvD Santa or Imgburn.
ANy suggestion on why the sound seems to skip/jump like it was a scratched cd in a cd player.

When I asked something similar with similar symptoms, I was told that I should use better DVD's and check my firmware.
The DVD's and firmware are working fine with Shrink and ImgBurn so I have done neither but you may wish to check on these issues.
The symptom does sound very similar. The sound was jumping all the time.
The same DVDs played okay in my computer but not on the player connected to my television.

I tried DVD Flick again and it worked fine both to PAL and NTSC.
I am not sure why. Perhaps large video files are more difficult to encode. I had success when creating a DVD from lots of small video files but not from about 5 large ones.
The cheapo media that I am using, and the firmware does not seem to be a problem.
