you have to flash the new drive with your original drives firmware, otherwise it will not work, it will only read movie dvds, and music cds, no games at all. this will also leave you with a 50/50 chance of getting banned from live.

trust me...its a 50/50 shot. your time will come. my last 360 was flashed as soon as it could be done, and i didnt get banned until this previous december over christmas break. went forever on it, didnt think i would, but then i did.

so that is pretty stupid. they just want to screw people out of their money by making it almost impossible to get your stuff fixed without taking it to them. so how do i flash it? is there a guide already out there that im just not aware of?

well yeah i saw all 50 billion of them but i wasnt sure if that is what i am needing. i wasnt sure if there was a different sort of "flash" for installing a new drive. but thank you. will any of them work? i didnt really plan on burning copies but i suppose if i got the stuff i might as well.

i would buy the benq drive. but why are you buying a new drive, is yours completely dead, or is it having problems reading the discs. if its just having problems reading, try putting a laser in first, that should solve the problems. it only costs around 10 bucks and takes about 20 minutes to do it.

really? i had no idea i could do that. where can i get something like that? i know that my tray doesnt work at all anymore so i have to use the paperclip trick. but i tried adjusting the pots and all it did was make my drive a lot louder. so i dont know.

If it's trouble reading games, I'd try the pot tweak first.

I have a hitachi 47dj and just did this the other day because I kept getting the "open tray" and "unplayable disc" error. It was set at 4.25k ohms, so I went to 3.8k ohms and it's been working great ever since with no issues.

If that don't work, get a new laser eye. It's much cheaper than buying the whole drive.

Also just so you know, there is always this method if you do buy a new drive. It's helpful if you already have your drive flashed. This way you won't have to flash it again as long as you buy the exact same drive and firmware version.

This is good for those other issues the drive may be having, unless it's the drive baord itself.

Edit: I see I was late at hitting "reply". :p
