Ok.. i don't competely understand how to make copies of a 360 game.. but i think i understand..
1. 360 games have some sort of code, that allows the system to regonize it as it does, and most copy and burn programs miss it.
2. You use a special program that you assign the disc with the code.
3. You adjust the 360, modding it, with a software update that takes the code and reads it like a normal game.
is that basicly what your doing in 3 short steps? i don't get the point of why you have to change your 360.. does xbl right out end your membership? Is it undoable(the mod)? how do they detect it?
sorry.. but i'm just new to this whole copying game discs..

Nope, that's not it. Original game discs have their security information in the inner hub. It looks like a bar code.

That information can be read, but not burnt to a disc, as the inner hub can not be burnt. So what the backup program will do is read all the game and security information on the disc and make a copy of it to your pc. But it'll take that security information and place it in a different location on the backup copy, so it can be burnt to the disc.
When you flash the firmware on your 360 dvd drive, the new firmware tells the drive to read the security info from its original location on the disc, and if it's not located, to look in another specific location on the disc, which is where the backup program placed it.

is it possible to get your hands on a drive that can write the bar code on the inner hub?

That bar code isn't burnt, it's stamped. They make cd's/dvd in a mold, not a burner.
In regards to bannings, so far the leading reason it people using bad backups. Having incorrect/missing security info is the reason.

thanks man, ive always wanted to know why u have to mod ur system to play backups. As for missing/incorrect security info, when u make ur own backups using the most up to date version of xbox backup creator does it do all of this for u?

so ah... so the prgram puts the code in as sort of a soft code.. and xbl can somehow see that.. because of the missing/moved info... ok... and since i don't want to get banned i'm not gunna do that.. i guess my hopes of renting games from blockbuster and then copying them won't work..
oh well...

Yes. That's why it's always recommended to make your own backups if you plan on playing on LIVE. Although, even making your own backups won't give you a 100% guarantee against being banned. There's no way of telling how MS may detect backups in the future.
