Yesterday the electric wires in my block blew up like fire works and the electricity went down. Courtesy of the third word electric company. To my extreme discontent my xbox 360 cant do much but smell like burned silicon.
My doubt is, have only the AC Adapter burned or is the hole equipment gone? How do I make sure the xbox itself have been damaged or not? Btw, what smells like burned silicon is the AC adapter.
I need to know so I can ask for the proper refund from the company.

What does the light on the power supply show when plugged in? If it's red, I'd try a different one if possible. If the new one still shows a red light, it probably did some internal damage to the 360 itself.

The power supply doesn´t show any light at all... The power supply is what I called "AC adapter"...
Difficult to "try a different one"... if I could get another one that would indeed solve my problems... I mean... At least I would know what works and what dont...

simple.. to get another one.. or test using another one.. borrow a friends for the test.. if it still has the problem then its your 360.. enless his is messed up as well...

Yeah, I guess that's what it takes... Problem is I don´t know anyone who have an xbox 360 here in Brazil... But I´ll find a way...
I just wanted to know if its common for the power supply to fry while the xbox itself stay undamaged... Anyway to know what happened to mine, only getting another power supply.

As long as it didn't send a surge to your 360, i would assume it is fine itself. I would suggest moving the 360 far from the power adapter and trying to see if it smells. This will not be a sure fire way to tell, but it may help give you some idea. I would imagine they have some sort of safety device in the power block (especially after the problem w/the original xbox), i'm willing to bet the xbox itself is fine, however if your turning it into the power company i would just tell them you want a whole new one(if they need the whole thing be sure to take off the hard drive if there is one).

the 360 power adapter has a built in surge protector, so the 360 its self is most likely ok.
I have lost all and any respect i had for this site!

If there are no lights showing on the PSU, then it's one of two things. The PSU or your outlet.
BTW. you ask a question and have an attitude with my reply? Come on, really. Getting a new one will indeed solve your problem. There is obviously NO POWER TO THE PSU.
Why even post this question at all if you know what might work and what won't? wtf?

You're probably right, I most likely read more in to it then what was there.
Lack of info (like no lights on the PSU when plugged in) makes it hard to to diagnose. It would also explain everthing that is wrong inthe situation.
To the OP: if the light on the PSU does not come on at all.....it's the PSU...period. If it were a problem with the 360 itself, you'd most likely see a red, or possibly an orange light.

i think what he wanted to know is, if it were possible that the power surge went through the power supply and hit the system itself.
he does know for sure that the supply is dead, no question about that, but it does have a surge protector built in but he will not know for sure till he gets his hands on another supply.
I have lost all and any respect i had for this site!

I´m really sorry If I weren´t clear enough, English is not my first language you see...
My doubt was if it would be possible that Both the Power Supply AND the xbox itself got damaged, since it was kinda clear the Power Supply was gone.
Now I went to a store who had a working xbox360 and made them test for me and yes, the xbox itself is fine. However, the power company will pay a small fortune to replace the burned Power Supply. And I cant play till they fix it... they´ll take around 40 days... damn, wished they would pay for the live card i just entered...
Now CL, It wasn´t my intention to have an "attitude" with you´re reply... sorry if it looked that way.

Yes although the power company will pay, it will definitly take a long time! If i had the chance in brazil id be admiring there beautiful women in the meanwhile (assuming your not married) or atleast enjoying the scenery, although being a native im sure its become all too familiar! good luck with the situation, maybe try getting a new supply brick online somewhere for cheap

Like I said, I guess I read it wrong. I did have a few too many that night as well. That could have something to do with it.
Anyway, like stated above, It is possible it did some damage to the 360. But you won't know until you try another power supply.

Now mrsylert, you would be surprise of how ugly this country can be in the not turistic, not post-card urban part of it. And I don´t really got time to go to a beach or a jungle between university and job, so... I need that xbox360 :-p
