Hi,
I'm new to burning dvd movies but am a veteran burner of dvd's & cd's with just about everything else. I'd like to commend you on your dvd burning guide - it's very detailed & indepth and very easy to follow. I tried converting an .avi file to m2v & mp2 to be able to use ifoedit and burn the movie but i get an error at about the 57s mark in TMPGEnc that reads as follows "Index of scanline is out of range(352)" when i follow your guide to the letter. upon a few changes to the steps (basically just setting TMPGEnc to "ES Video Only" then converting the m2v file followed by converting just the "ES Audio Only" to the mp2 file)i get the extraction just fine for the video but the audio just plays nothing, it's just 1:38:26 of silence (the exact length of the movie - i know the extraction isn't working right). Yet i tried using the video & audio files in IFOEdit (even though the audio is silence) and after i go into the dvdauthor in ifoedit & select the files it crashes.

despite all the useless info above (more or less to let ppl know that this way doesn't work - at least for me)what i'm asking is how can i get this error to stop? is there an alternate program i can use for this step?

I also searched for this error in your forum and found a person with the same problem but there was no answer. plz reply asap as this is driving me absolutely CrAzY!!! Thanx in advance.

I may have found the answer to my own problem. It just occured to me to open the original AVI file in Virtual Dub and when i did i got the following message "Virtual Dub has detected an improper audio encoding in the source ACI file and will rewrite the audio header with the standard CBR values during processing for better compatability..." so, most likely, the reason I was getting the silence when i extracted just the audio was because of this. I'm going to try to re-encode the entire thing and try it again and see what happens. i think after this it'll work though. Still if you know of an easier way to fix the scanline problem with TMPGEnc plz advise.

OK...The Message you Got about the audio in Virtual dub is the reason why there is no audio in the Encoded file..The audio in the AVI file is VBR Mp3 which TMPGEnc does not support and if you try to extract it in Virtual-Dub you will get Sync Problems, I find the best thing to do is to use a Simple Tool called "Decompress.exe" this tool will Turn your AVI with Compressed audio into an AVI with Uncompressed audio which TMPGEnc will Accept...But the error you got about the Index scan line is a Problem with your AVI file ,Usually Corrupted Frame(s) ,There is no real way to get over this error by doing anything in TMPGEnc but what you can try is after you decompress the audio with Decompress.exe (PM Me with your e-mail address and I will send it to you) Load your AVI file into Virtual-Dub and Frameserve the File to TMPGEnc ,When Virtual dub encounters a Bad Frame it removes the bad Frame and replaces it with the last good Frame..This error is common with downloaded files because Downloaded files are more prone to corruption from the downloading it"s self...If you need Instructions on Frameserveing with Virtual-Dub let me Know and I"ll explain how to do it...Cheers
