SATA to USB converter

I read somewhere where someone used a SATA to USB converter, or made it, and they set it up so they wouldn't have to open there xbox everytime they needed to update the firmware for the xbox's dvd-rom. They did not say whether they used/made a USB to sata cable or just plugged it directly into the usb port on their computer to update the firmware. My question is, is it possible to update the xbox's firmware to play backups without buying a sata chipset and just making/buying one of these sata to usb converters and plugging in the xbox dvd-rom into your computer through a usb cable???

Team xecuter came out w/ a kit that works w/usb only for hitachi though, it can be found here http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=12370 .
as far as being able to do it w/any converter i don't know if that will work because when you do it w/sata it has to be in the master port. however depending on the program your using to flash it, it may be possible.

I have seen people use a splitter of sorts and run an SATA cable from the inside of the 360 to the outside for flashing. I wish i could find some pictures of it. They just cut a small hole in the back of their case and ran it out.
