I have a standard Japanese Wiikey, and ever since I got it, it hasn't been updated with anything. It runs games from a long time ago just fine, but recent games with auto-updates and bricks I don't dare play. I burned a copy of Pokemon Battle Revolution (US) and it started updating when I inserted it into my Wii. I know theres a topic with all the answers, but my mind didn't really soak in anything it said. I would like to ask for a very brief starting point for me to comprehend all of this, thank you all very much.

If its from the same region, your absolutely fine. If its a different region never update it as it will result in a semi-bricked Wii (which basically means you can't access your settings and you end up with news and weather duplicate channels - games will still play fine though). It may be worth while for you to research programs such as regionfrii and brickbloker, which attempt to remove the update and therefore the problem.
If by some horrible reason you do end up with a semi-bricked Wii, the only known fix for this at this present time is to wait for another update to be released, obtain a game that has this update from your region and update it by that.
