Last year I posted on here that I had successfully got backups working near enough 100% for about a month or so before I started to experience problems with SDload not booting - I would just get a black screen after opening and closing the lid (as instructed to do so by AR). However, I have finally found out why.

Don't know how I found it but I lucked upon some threads going back to 2005 about people having problems with their SD Gecko. Having investigated mine it turns out to have been the cause.

So to anyone else who gets blackscreens, try investigating your Gecko.

What I found was that the circuit board inside my gecko was loose, and would rattle when you shook it. This means that due to the high frequency of removing and putting back in the Gecko to load different games, the connections weren't always being made between the Gecko and the Cube for it to be able to read the data on my SD card. What I've found is that the circuit board sits a bit too low, and by pushing down on the little bit of SD card that sticks out the end of my Gecko, this klifts the circuit board at the front of the Gecko and SDload has since booted every time. So what I'll do now is use something to keep the circuit board higher all the time and I won't have to worry about it anymore.

Hopefully this will come in handy for others who have been driven nuts by this problem.
