Hey totally new to this. have owned my psp pretty much from launch day. never messed with it. got some CSO files on a 4G mem stick on world travels and saw it used on different psp's. won't work in mine.

been searching thru your forum but haven't seen any results as to CSO's and weather it's possible to run off a (stock?) v1.52. just how to convert and how to run off a v1.50. did however see lots of threads about downgrading...oh and the word "brick" one or two times. before i blinding guess what to do and mess my psp could someone offer a little aid?

You'll need to downgrade your PSP to 1.50 :)
Upgrade your PSP from 1.52 to 2.00 :)
2.00 firmware : HERE
Then use THIS guide to downgrade your 2.00 PSP to 1.50 :)
Files required for the downgrader :
MPH Downgrader : HERE
1.50 firmware : HERE
"Please read the guide carefully and be sure to look at the pictures"
After you downgrade your PSP, use THIS guide to update your PSP to 3.71m33-4 or 3.90m33-2 (It totally depends on you as to which firmware you want to go to)
After you update your PSP to a custom firmware, then put the .cso file in the "ms0:\ISO" folder of your PSP :)

thanks. it's always the worest when you think you have a different question but get the same answer as hundreds of others. sorry for that.

ok well i thought that might be the case. thank you very much for the direction. just for the sake of asking tho i did read in another thread about someone using devhook with v2.71 having ISO's work. was a few days ago now so i could be wrong. is there any truth to that working (so i don't risk a brick)?

also have some zipped files on that mem stick as well. games of course but it's a bunch of folders, .bin files, and an .SFO. should these work the same as a the normal CSO files i mentioned? like i mentioned have seen it work on other PSP's. again thanks for you help.

.bin and .sfo eh ??? o_O
Never know such type of game files >_<
I think they must be some system files >_>
btw, you can use devhook to play higher firmware games on 2.71 firmware PSP :)
I mean there is a custom firmware called 2.71 SE-C and it can only play 2.71 firmware games :)
So, devhook is used to emulate a firmware higher than the current firmware you have to play higher firmware games :)
Devhook can emulate max. to 3.11 firmware and so, I think that's final because of the intro of the custom firmware :)

yeah, they're just in a winrar file on the mem stick but they did work in that form when tested.

but the 2.71 SE-C only works with 2.71 games...so you'd have to know the firmware of the game you wanted before you actually got it. right? so i doubt that'll work for me cause i just random picked mine.

so basicly the up/down grading is what needs to be done for everything to work (except maybe the rar files [but the rest are CSO's])right?

well thanks for all the info. doubt this "unlocking" will be something i get into hardcore but i did pick up enough games in bangkok to last me a while so i want them to work. any last minute comments before i go ahead with your first set of instruction?

Well, even I dunno which firmware games I play :P
And then when in my trip of putting all cfw on my PSP, I noticed that many games didn't work on my PSP when I was on a lower firmware and so, then got the idea of devhook :P

Well, no last minute comments but well, in the downgrader I gave you, when you update to 1.50, you'll get an error at 99% which is common and do not panic :)
Juz follow the instructions properly in that guide :)

sigh* must think i'm daft by now...
i'm using my stock 32mb mem stick.
***
cause you should see all the different folders (most empty) my new 4g stick has. picked her up for less then $30 fully loaded in bangkok. sony made i'm sure. snicker*
***
anyways...the point. so i started in on your directions. everything looks exactly like it should however when i go to open the photo it doesn't show up. seen this before? is it dangerous to run the 1.50 firmware without it? in the packs you gave i saw the .tif in the psp/photo folder. i did try replacing the whole psp folder with the one provided and still nothing. long story short...sounds like i'm stuck at stage one. you can laugh if you'd like. grown*

also quick question. would i be correct in guessing that after the update, then downgrade, then update again it's the psp that changes not the mem stick and i can swap them out whenever and not bugger anything? ie works like you never did anything to begin with?

meaning do all the updating first on the stock stick then put the new one in and nothing should change expect the games would work. if thats the case i could delete the files i've added for this once it's finished and have my stock (now empty) mem stick back right?

(if this keeps up i'm gonna be owing you beer. lol)

lolz :P
No probs man :)
I dun drink, so no beer :P

btw, you can put another memory stick in your PSP after you've successfully Upgraded/downgraded your PSP firmware :)
But do not remove the memory stick when the Upgrade/downgrade process is going on :)

Oh well, I hope you can play .cso files now :)
btw it's better if your uncompress the .cso files to .iso as .cso files may give you alot of lags :)
You can use "UMDgen 4.0" to do that :)
