Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're saying that your copied discs cannot be used to make another disc?
If your copied disc cannot be read, "opened," or, since it seems inevitable, be played back, it sounds like trashy media. Stick to the trusted stuff like genuine TYs, Verbatims, etc.
Check out this forum, especially the stickies at the very top of the page: http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/47
My very small batch of TDK media (coded out as the dreaded CMC Mag) cannot be read or opened on my computer. Playback on my player is hit or miss.

Agree.
This sounds like a clear cut case of poor quality media. These days there's really no reason not to use the good stuff.
Beware the evils of CMC MAG!

Okay, let's try this again, since this latest post seems different from the original (proper grammar would help since comma use and appropriate period placement would dispel the ambiguity here).
So you can "take DVDs from 2 months ago and copy them fine." You're talking about copied discs here, yes? If so, trashy media will last up to 6 to 12 months. It's after they've been in storage for a while will they start to deteriorate.
You then say "when i run the original through shrink i can play it fine on my computer or in dvd player." Okay, that's good. Shrink is working. It's supposed to process the original discs.
Finally, you say "but just cant make another copy i believe its something to do with encryptions?" This part of the sentence implies that you cannot make an additional copy of the original disc. This really doesn't make any sense since you say that you're able to make a copy before.
Can you please try to be clearer? We're trying to help here.

ok i thought fixvts fixed my pronlem but it didnt, let me try to explain my problem better. i take for example american gangster run it through dvd shrink and rip my copy, now if i take my ripped copy and try to make another copy it wont let me. i've tried it in nero 6 & 8,dvdfab hd,and also tried running it through dvdshrink, and it wont let me make a copy from my ripped copy. i had no problems doing this until about 3 weeks ago so i got to believe its something to do with encryptions on new releases, because if i get a movie that has been out for awhile i have no trouble. fixvts will work if i have a dvd file on my hard drive but wont work from the ripped disc.

Sorry about not getting back yesterday.
Anyway, two things:
1- If you're trying to make another copy, from your ripped copy, it's got to be a result of the DVD media you used initially. What DVD media are you using? You say that you've been using it forever, fine, but what media are you using?
Case in point: every Verbatim and TY disc I have, from 2-3 years ago, still plays fine. The 5-10 discs that I have, that are TDKs coded out as CMC Mag, cannot be played back consistently. Moreover, in regards to your problem, it cannot be "Opened" or ripped to my computer anymore.
2- It doesn't make sense that DVDFab wouldn't do the job for your encrypted discs. Are you using the latest versions?

If you're trying to make a copy of you initial copy...encryptions are already gone and therefore unneccessary for you to use a ripper.
Simply use ImgBurn for that.

I'm sticking with one of my first posts...this seems to be a clear cut case of poor media.

Exactly! This is why I asked the poster to be a little more clear when it comes to describing this problem. As I said earlier, as well, if you're trying to make copies of copies, and you can't do it, it's the media.
If you're trying to make copies of the original, and can't do it, it's the encryption.

That's the way it seems but i'm still a little unclear. I think you wrapped it up nicely Mr. Pink.

im using phillips dvd+r lightscribe dvds. why i dont think its the media is because i can take a movie that came out on dvd six months ago, rip it and a can make copies off my ripped copy no problem. but when i take a movie like rendition or american gangster that just came available on dvd i can rip it but can't make copies from my ripped copy. i will try different media if you all think thats it, has any of you ripped american gangster and been able to make copies from your ripped copy?

jivematte - it's been answered by the guys above; a ripped copy has the encryption removed hence there's no encryption. If, for instance, you had problems ripping a new (original) movie it could possibly just be an encryption that's too new for whichever program to rip; however in your case it does indeed sound like your media (either way we need exact error codes or more to go on); on the subject of Philips media you do realise that doesn't mean a lot ?, ie Philips is one of those companies who uses different manufacturers' disks ie one pack of disks could be made by one company and another identical pack might be manufactured by a completely different company.. But we're back to square one ie needing more to go on
edit- as to Rendition and American Gangster we have threads for those but the workarounds are the same as for any movie ie DVDFab or AnyDVD, nothing out of the ordinary there..
