hi guys.

my friends brother brought a wii back from taiwan and he got it modded their, he has no clue what type of chip it is.

how can i go about finding the make of his chip

Sure fire way would be to take it apart. That way you would also gain the experience.

my friend would rather eat nails than let me open up his wii, is their no other way

as has been stated time and time again on this forums, the only sure fire way to know is to open up your wii. There is one thing that you can do to start to narrow down which chip you have by eliminating one chip (the wiikey). Download and burn the wiikey setup disc and then see if it loads. If it loads then you have a wiikey, if it doesn't then you can rule out the wiikey and you'll have to open up your wii anyway.

If your friend won't let you open it up, tell him to. Just make sure you read guides/tutorials before doing so. Watch some vids on taking apart the wii as well.
That way you guys won't be lost when you actually do take it apart.
