Not true at all. I have done about 4 updates since I modded my wii, and haven't had any problems.

You're more likely to brick the console with a freeloader (assuming it plays import wii games. Last freeloader version I heard of only played import GC games)
Its out-of-region wii firmware updates imbedded in import games that cause bricking, not the modchips. Most people with chips play mostly backup games from their own region (in my case I copy all my games and then keep the origionals safely hidden away. My brother and girlfriend are both very very bad about keeping gamedisks in working order) If you play alot of import games though that increases you chances of getting bricked. Plus with backup imports you can brickblock the disk, another helpful tool that you cant use with freeloader.
Hmmm I would have thought imported games should be safe on freeloader cos I doubt they'd bang it out if there was a risk of them bricking the Wiis seeing as it's specifically for region free - but you can't say it will be futureproof i.e. I expect them maybe to flog another updated version down the line - if it's actually possible by then cos who knows what will happen with future updates from Ninty.
Also - regarding modchips if you take your time, and don't rush into anything, including updates, without making sure you are informed, then you won't brick your Wii either. The problem with many is they get so scared at the thought they find it very hard and even a chore to read or to trust any info and some if they do can't be bothered to stay current.
Ppl want it on a plate - some think freeloader does that but it only gives you a small portion. Chips are the full meal ... pardon the pun lol
