Hi, was wondering if you guys know if this microSD to Memory Stick adapter would work with a PSP, I am highly interested in this because microSDs in Australia are over 2x cheaper than MS. My main concern is whether this will work with SDHC cards or not, I'm planning to get a 4gb SDHC MicroSD card to use.

How would this work with the PSP though? I was under the impression that to work proprly PSP cards needed to be "MagicGate Enabled"...surely a Micro SD card would not have MagicGate??

it an adapter it will make it think it is a pro duo and it doesn't have to be magic gate supported fake mem stick aren't and they work fine.
but this is something i'v never tried my self but should work because you can stick it into a pc card slot and it will think its a pro duo. the only problem you might face is the read/write speed as it will be slower for a micro sd (because its made for phone mostly so doesn't need a really fast speed) so i don't know what will happen then

Slow speed/write doesn't bother me as I'm using a fake memory stick already (takes 10 minutes to copy a 500mb file). I don't have the money to buy high capacity genuine sticks as I am only a student thats why I thought this would be great accessory considering how cheap mSD cards are.
I've looked around the web and found a couple of Australian stores to sell mSD to MS adapters: http://www.emarketplace.com.au/shop/tran...b-pid-4819.html
I'm pretty sure the adapter will work but my only concern is whether it will work with SDHC cards or not. I don't mind forking over $10 for the adapter but it would be a pain if i wasted $30 on a 4gb SDHC card to find out it didn't work and I have no use for it.

Thought you would've realised I was talking about micro SDHC cards. Anyways, I got a reply from the seller:
"hi,
thanks for your interest
it work with microSD but it does NOT work
with microSDHC.
thanks
-heheshop"
Turns out it won't work with SDHC cards afterall.

I finally got one I ordered from ebay (branded TFlash on ebay page) today so I went out to find a large micro sd card (not a easy task) but I found out verizon had them and I went with a 8gb at first I thought it would not work because my psp would not format it but i hooked up the usb and formated it in windows it still didn't work till I took the files off my other PSP formated pro duo card and now it works fine I'm gonna take it back and buy one from ebay to save some cash though, it was $100 at verizon and you can get them on ebay for like $60 its awesome to have so much space and its like at least $20 cheaper this way plus you can get the smaller micro sd's for dirt cheap

Bobgamer,
What brand Micro SDHC card did you use? Also - what firmware are you on, and did you install any patches on your PSP?
The reason I ask, is that I've researched this extensively over the last month - and you're the only person to report a card over 2gb working on a PSP. I tried to use a 6gb micro sdhc card, and that failed miserably.
I wish it were possible to use an 8gb micro sdhc. They're almost half the price of a pro duo - and many more devices can use micro sdhc with or without an adapter.

Gah, where was this thread when I ordered my 8GB SDHC? >_<
At any rate, I picked up my MicroSD to MSPD adapter from http://www.semsons.com/miadsetsmime.html for my 2GB and it worked without a hitch. I just ordered a 8GB Sandisk SDHC from Meritline.com (57.99 w/ free shipping) and it'll be here pretty soon. I'll report my findings once it arrives.

I have the memory stick adapter and it works flawlessly with my 2GB card (which is also a kingston). But I'm not sure if it'll work with any of the larger sizes (as they're SDHC). I have an 8GB Sandisk coming in a few days that I'm going to try out. I'll post what I find here.

As a result of BobGamer's comments, I spent a couple hours trying to get my 6gb micro sdhc card to work with the adapter I have.
No matter what I did, I couldn't get the PSP to recognize it. I tried formatting the card several differnt ways by using a USB adapter. Then I tried simply copying over the contents of my already formatted memory stick. That didn't work either.
I'm hoping it's just a matter of the firmware not allowing a size that hasn't been released in pro duo format. Hopefully the 8gb card will work when it comes in. I'm going to give up for the moment, because I need to put the 6 gig card back in my phone. If anyone else reports success - I may buy and try an 8gb micro SDHC card.
If this works for anyone - the big keys to report are PSP firmware, whether it includes the memory card hack, memory card brand, and the format you used on the card.

I have a 4GB micro SDHC card + pro duo adapter that came with the card.
The brand is Peak, you can look it up on their site peakhardware.com.
They advertise it as working on PSP and Cybershot cameras but I haven't been able to get it recognized by either. My psp has firmware 3.80 m33-5.
I am unable to format it on my PC because I need a micro-> standard SD adapter which I don't have. I am at a loss here. I have seen people reporting it as working though, check here: http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?p=869841
Any new reports are welcome.

Mandrilla,
Have you tried downgrading to 3.71? I notice those who have had success all used that firmware number. Otherwise, you can try to use the flash memory hack that Dark Alex wrote. Apparently, starting with 3.80, Sony messed with the flash memory controller such that some people have reported excessive lag with cards above 4 gigs. I wonder if this is playing a role in not being able to use the microsdhc cards?
That would be my suggestion - since you already have the Peak kit which is advertised to work.

Well, I have tried it on 3.71 m33 all up to 3.90 m33 and no luck. Maybe ill try the flash memory hack tomorrow. Ill let you know when I have done so.

That stinks. I think it should have worked with 3.71 if it worked at all, so don't get your hopes up. Perhaps you just need to format on the PC? You can get a micro to full SD adapter for about $4 shipped if you look around.
Failing that, maybe you should contact Peak tech support.

I got it to work with a SanDisk 8gb from Verizon on a 3.40 OE and a 3.71 M33 I took back that one ($100) and ordered one off ebay (SanDisk 8gb) for $52, I hope its legit.
Here is what my adapter looks like, it came from Hong Kong shipping was pretty fast about a week or so

I'll let you guys know how the next card works

Thanks for the info Bobgamer. Unfortunately, I think the new card you got from EBAY will probably be bogus - but I hope it's not. I recommend calling Sandisk when you get it so you can confirm from the package and/or markings. Same thing with Meritline, I've ordered from them before and been happy - but they do sell a lot of generics . . .
Regardless, good luck with the new card and let us know how it goes. Specifically, let us know how you end up formatting the card on your PC - or if you have to.
That mod to convert full SDHC's is pretty sweet. 16 gig SDHC cards can be found for $60! But I'd hate to have that stuff hanging out of my PSP while using it. I'd be happy if I could get micro's to work, because I'm sure the price will improve even more compared to Pro-Duo's. And they could be used in SDHC slots - I'm looking for the most standard memory possible for the future.

Okay ladies and gentlemen, get ready to be excited and confused! The me 8gb Sandisk MicroSD card I just got in WORKS!
From the posts, I was so convinced that it wouldn't work that I told a friend of mine that I'd sell it to him, but when it came in, I just couldn't resist the urge to give it a shot: fully expecting it to fail. But it indeed works! =D
Just in case anyone is curious, this is the adapter I'm using: http://www.semsons.com/miadsetsmime.html
And this is the memory I ordered:
http://www.meritline.com/sandisk-8gb-mic...emory-card.html
This definitely puts my mind at ease, and I'm sure it'll do the same for a bunch of others here. I'm not sure if the issues other people were having were because of the adapters / memory they were using, but I assert that the above combo works without a hitch! =D
