The move is made at a time when the industry is moving rapidly to the Blu-ray Disc format after Toshiba discontinued production of HD DVD equipment. Circuit City spokesman Jim Babb said the company is seeking to "take care of its customers" during this period. ... [ read the full article ]

If you paid full (or near-full) retail price for your HD-DVD, it might be a good idea.

But if you got the player at a huge discount ..... I'd hang on to it.

I agree 100% iluvendo, it is refreshing to see a retailer go above and beyond. Yet another reason why I like CC vs. BB in my personal opinion.

It sounds like Circuit City has gone one step further. You can now return your HD DVD player for a full refund (gift card) no matter when you bought it, as long as you have a receipt. You can read the details here.

Update: I've read on some other sites that the offer is only good if you bought the HD DVD player in the last 90 days. I guess we'll have to wait until Circuit City posts the details on their website.

@domie
He's saying to buy an open box version of the one you have, and then return one of them on the old receipt. That's pretty smart. You keep your old player, and get part of the money back because the newer player is cheaper. Not that I've done that or anything... ripxrush :-)
@silk42
