Hello all, I was referred to this place while back, but never managed to get around to actually posting my issue.

I searched around the forums, but there's so many similar problems, that are not identical to my problems, that it makes it tough to sift out what is relevant to my issues.

Recently, my HTPC has been having issues playing videos. AVI's are the only thing I've tested, since it's all that's really on the machine. It's got a little under a gig of RAM, and the video card in it is a 7300 GT 512MB. I'm using windows XP, and using Media Player Classic. I'm using the Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP) for codecs.

For quite some time, this setup worked great. I could play just about anything I wanted on it, and it ran smoothly. Then one day I go to play a video, and it's stuttering. Badly. Video and audio together. One "cut" every second or so; Unignorable.

I've reinstalled video drivers, codecs, media players. Nothing has worked. I even upgraded the video card.

Can anybody suggest what I should attempt to fix this?

well am glade you did these things first before posting;)

im going to tell you strait up, the CCCP was originally created to decrepit specially encoded anime episodes, the episodes would be formated in a low quality so that download could be quick and quality high once viewed with the CCCP....but in short the CCCP is pure JUNK

first uninstall the CCCP and join the rest of use humans and use the K-LITE,
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm
its important that you do not install both packs together as
combined codec packs on the same computer often interfere and in a sense cancel each other out!

also although media player classic is amazing sometimes it sometimes fails to work with a few file type types (very few) and some more recent codecs

try running te file on media player 11 (WMP 11)

questions, comments?

I just tried switching out the CCCP codec with the K-Lite codec.

It's made things worse, actually. Now, on top of stuttering, I get muffled little blips, and bleeps like I'm listening to R2D2 swimming or something.

It's an AVI file.

Unless it was recently corrupt, I know it's in good condition. I've watched these videos before, but suddenly they're all failing to play properly.

Edit:
If I play the video once, and let it stutter for a bit, then restart it. The parts I watched previous run smoothly, while the parts I didn't watch, continue to stutter.

Could this suggest an issue with my RAM?

Nobody's got any ideas, I take it?

Is there any way somebody could tell me how to test my computer's health? Something that isn't filled with spyware and whatnot?

Maybe my processor / RAM / HDD is dying. I'd like to be able to find out if that's the case or not.

Ahhh, you do realize that the K-Lite pack started from Kazaa Lite, both of which installs spyware and spyware portals?
