Lol, where'd you hear that? Well... it doesn't.
But, it doesn't fix the lag on games with Sony NP9660, as you're on, just switch to the M33 Driver. The fatmsmod just changes how the PSP reads the memory stick, and only affects the speed of access with things like photos, videos, and things on the game menu.
If you want to use it, go to dark-alex.org, download "Patch to Load 3.71 fatmsmod on 3.80/3.90 M33 (Version 2)" and "M33 PSARDumper (up to 3.7x)", then from another site, get the EBOOT.PBP for 3.71 official firmware.
Firstly, follow the instructions to place the PSARDumper on your memory stick, then rename the 3.71 firmware EBOOT.PBP to 371.PBP and place in on your memory stick root. Now go onto your PSP and run the PSARDumper, after it's all finished, go back onto your PC, look at the root of your memory stick, you'll see a new folder called "F0", go inside that, then the "kd" folder, and copy the file called "fatmsmod.prx" from there, onto the root of your memory stick.
After all of that's finished, follow the instructions to place the fatmsmod patcher onto your PSP and then run it. Done.
Overall that should take you around 5-7 minutes.
PSP, all the way from 1.00 to 5.50 GEN D2 - DS Lite w/ M3DS Real (M3 Sakura v1.34)
PS3 3.01 - iPod Touch 2G 16GB Jailbroken - Xbox 360 60GB - PC, Q6600, 3GB DDR2, GTX260 (216) 896MB

After Installing FATMSMOD on my PSP Phat with 3.90 M33-2. Will it affect my gameplay speed? or just speed up icons in XMB? Will it increase my speed when navigating icons in XMB? Will it increase my transferring speed? Will it improve on reading games? Will fatmsmod work on a FAKE memory stick?

it will speed up any process that is being used or using the memory stick. i think it will work with all memory sticks fake and real ones but you will still get a better speed from the real ones
hope that helps

yes i said it would work on fake and real mem sticks

right download this fatmsmod and this psar dumper 3.7x and last this the 3.71 update
ok now you will need to load up psar dumper
put psar dumper into game390 (if you dont have one make one in the psp folder)
x:\psp\game390 (where x is psp drive)
then put the folder newpsardumper into game390
next get the 3.71 update and put it in the root of your mem stick
x:\eboot.pbp (where x is psp drive)
now go to your game memory stick and load up psar dumper and wait while it decrypts the 3.71 update (make sure you have enough space)
one finished go to where it has place all the files and find the folder named F0
in there; there should be another folder called kd and then in there ; there is the fatmsmod.prx
now copy the fatmspatch to your psp game390 folder (i think lol)and copy the fatmsmod to the root of you mem stick
x:\fatmsmod.prx (where x is the psp drive)
then go to the game icon again and then load up the fatmspatch and then install the fatmsmod
then your done 0_<
dark_alex has put though that it wont fix the lag in the sony np9660 driver
hope that helps and sorry if iv got anything wrong but this is all what i would have done lol

rename it to game390 because you have 3.90m33 fw which has the 3.90 kernel 0_<

you can be them in ether but if you put them in game you have to set the game kernel to 3.90 in recovery mode so i would stick to putting them in game390

Thanks For The Info! But after running NEW PSAR DUMPER in my PSP. I've heard that you should press Circle button (Encrypted, no signcheck - encrypted means smaller file size, and using signcheck makes the process fail for some reason) Should i Press the Cirlce Button? What is it for?

yes its safe and if amything happens to the psp like it runs out of power e.t.c it will still be fine because its not coping to the flash on the psp.
also fatmsmod work with all mem stick pro duo all sizes fake and real
also it might not fix the lag because your running the sony umd drivers change it and that will help fix it to.

Thanks for All the INFO!!! That really helped. One, last questions. What is the function of pressing the Circle button after running NEW PSAR DUMPER? Is it recommended? Could it brick my PSP? Why should i press the circle button? Can i format my memory stick after doing this installation?

what the psar is doing is not writing to flash but tricking the update into writing all the flash0 stuff to the memory stick thats how it works (i think)
if anything happens to your psp then dont panic all will be fine it will still turn on and wont be a brick.
pressing the o button just extracts the files in the update encrypted like it would do for the normal sony update but if you want a file thats unencrypted (like if you forgot to back up your flash0 semi-brick it and you know someone with a cfw psp you could get them to extract the flash0 files unencrypted and then just place them into your flash0 and it will work) also unencrypted fw is good for homebrew developers as they can make the homebrew compatible with the latest cfw.
but for this case encrypted or unencrypted it doesnt really matter.

In the Readme of FATMSPATCH, What does it means when it uses more kernel memory, and it is unknown if it will have any kind of secondary effect running this module in 3.80/3.90

yes you can format your memory card and it will still work
and when it say it gives more space for the kernel that is refuring to the encrypted and unencrypted bit. all it means is that when it is flashed there is still some space there for other stuff like themes and that.
when it say secondary effects are unknown that means that they dont know if there are any effects that might take place after the installation like the memory card not reading e.t.c. but its safe to say that so far none have been found and i doubt any will be and if there are just reflash to 3.71m33 and then back and that will fix it 0_<
hope that all helps

So it is just better for now not to install fatmsmod on 3.90 m33-2

right first change the umd driver to m33 to do that press select in the xmb menu and go to no-UMD and change it to m33
there was a problem and still is with the sony driver for 3.90m33 which is the one that your are using so if you change it that might help fix the problem.
the fatmsmod will speed up anything that needs to use the memory stick like games, homebrew, movies all that stuff and as far as i know there are no problems with it so far so its up to you to install but it is worth it if your games and movies stutter.
