I have 3.71 M33-2 cfw and have gotten the 80020148 error when I try to run any games that I load to my memory stick. Obviously I am a Noob - can't deny it. I have even get the error when I download UMD Dumper. I save it under PSP/Game and try to run it then get hit with the 80020148 error. I have the 1.50 kernal add on selected in my configuration as well (all advanced configs are disabled). I have also tried multiple memory sticks in the event that I had a crappy fake one.
Can anyone give me a hand - I think that there is one option that I have disabled/enabled or something wrong selected, however when I make that one change all will be well.
Thanks for all your help.

Hi,
Quick search on Google brought up THIS link.
Basically, go to recovery mode (switch off PSP fully by holding up power switch untill all lights go off, then reboot it whilst holding the R trigger.)
Go to CONFIGURATION, and change the UMD mode to NORMAL -UMD REQUIRED- by pressing the X button. Press back, the exit and the PSP will boot to the XMB. Put a UMD in the drive, and try the game again, and hopefully it should start for you.
Hope it works out for you...let us know how you get on!

a quick search bought up THIS, but i dont know if that will help you untill i know exactly what is happening when you get the error.
I assume you are using the UMD ripper that is built into 3.71 M33-2? The one accessed through the VSH MENU?

Ibizagti,
Thanks for your assistance, unfortunately when I tried your recommendation I got the same result. I will go check out the link that you provided to see what is there. Here are my settings in the config. setup:
Skip logo - Disabled
Hide corrupt - Enabled
Game Folder Homebrew - 1.50 kernel)
Autorun program at /PSP/Game/Boot/Eboot.pbp - Disabled
UMD Mode - Normal - UMD required
Fake region - Disabled
Free UMD Region - Disabled
Hard Reset on homebrew - Disabled
USE VshMenu - Enabled
XMB USB Device: Memory Stick
Like I said, I have been trying to get this to work for a few days and I have a feeling that it is something small. Does anyone know if this is a M33-2 issue becaue it seems like lafeet is running into the same problem.
Thanks again for all your help - it is MUCH appreciated.

hhmm, all your settings look ok to be running the games (apart from the one mentioned by 07anto07). Do as he suggests and change the homebrew kernal and give it another go.
Also, you will need to make sure you have a UMD in the drive unless you select one of the -NO UMD- drivers from the UMD Mode menu.
Also, i dont think it has any influence on your problem, but consider updating to 3.71 M33-4 (download the file fromHERE). It runs more stable than the 3.71M33-2.
Let us know how you get on, and i'll do my best to help you further if i can!!

You guys are awesome, thanks for all your help. Using the dump feature that 07anto07 referenced save the file to my computer, however when I copied it to my memory stick under the ISO folder then tried to access it there is not picutre for the game, then when selected the screen goes black and have to do a hard reset because nothing happens. I changed the UMB device to memory stick and also tried with the kernel at 3.71 and 1.5. Have you guys heard about this issue with the fake sony memory sticks that have been sold on Ebay? I think I have one so maybe that is my problem. I am going to try and download some emulators and see what happens. Where is the best play to download? I have heard Xnews and PirateBay are just a few.
Thanks,
S.D.

Ok, so does this happen whenever you try to play any game? or is it only when certain games/emulators are played?
Also, since you changed the homebrew kernel as advised by 07anto07, do you still get the error message, or does the screen just go black now?
Just to be sure, you are placing the isco/cso files in the x:\ISO folder of your memory stick (where "x" is your psp drive letter when connected to your PC), and emulators in x:\PSP\GAME folder?
With regards to your memory stick question, i am not an expert on this, but THIS guide will help you determine whether yours is fake or not. I guess that the problem of the screen going black could be caused by the slower read speeds of a fake card, but again, i am not an expert on fake cards.
I know there are many fake memory stick about, especially on ebay, therefore i always make sure i buy from a reputable place, such as a store chain or major online retailer. If the price seems to good to be true, it probably is, and you will end up with a fake.
If you have a genuine card of any size above 256mb you should be able to get either a game or emulator saved onto it and test it on your PSP to determine whether it is a memory card issue.
For downloading emulators, the best site i have found is HERE. I have never used Xnews, but as Piratebay is a torrent site it cannot be discussed here.
The best emulators i ghave found are Snes9x (Snes emulator) and DGEN (Genesis/Megadrive) emulator. I have both running on my PSP, and they run excellently.
Let me know whether the error messages are still coming up, and have a try with a different memory card if you can. Post back to let us know how you get on, and with any more problems you may have.
Good Luck,
IBIZAGTI

Yeah, my screen just goes black. If I push the Home key it will ask me if I want to quit the game - so that at least tells me that it is not freezing up. I tried it on the 3.71 and 1.5 kernel. One more dumb question to add to my bonfire of idiocy: What are the CPU Clock XMB (Default), CPU Clock Game (Default) used for on the M33 VSH Menu?
I currently don't have any emulators that I can download to see if my memory stick is part of the problem, but I think I will look at the link you provided for the DGEN (I am big Sega fan).
Thanks,
S.D.

A guide to all the items in th recovery and VSH menu can be found HERE.
Ok, so if it is not giving you any errors, it looks like your settings could now be correct. The only possibilities i can think of could be either the memory card (which has already be mentioned), or the actual games you are trying to play. It would be a lot easier if it were the games, as then you wouldnt have to buy a new memory stick, so lets try that first. (i am assuming you have a slim psp, if not let me know and i will adapt the steps to suit).
Download THIS rar file (it is the snes emulator for the PSP Slim). Extract the files, and connect your PSP to your computer, and enter USB mode to display your memory stick files.
Enter the folder named "snes9xTYL-0.4.2me_fw3x" and you will see a new folder called "snes9xTYL". Copy the complete "snes9xTYL" folder into the x:\PSP\GAME folder on your PSP (where "x:" is your PSP drive letter).
ensure all the files are copied across. The folder should now look like this:

Now press O on the PSP to exit USB mode, and go to GAME on your XMB. the Snes9x should now be there. Try to run the game, and hopefully it should load (you should see the settings page, but obviosly wont be able to start a game unless you have some ROM's).
Let me know how that goes, and we can work from there.

ibizagti,
Good news / bad news (at least for me). Good news is that the game loaded (the SNES emulator), bad news is that i had to use my smaller memory stick - it appears that my problem was in fact the fake stick.
I actually have a Fat, but the program still worked. Can I find ROMs on the same website or the link you provided earlier?
Thanks,
S.D.

Ibizagti,
Nevermind on the for some Roms, I took the initiative and did a google search and found a good website. I wanted to go download one to test my PSP and what do you know it actually WORKS!!!
Again, you have been a huge help and I really do appreciate all the advice you provided. I am just starting out, but maybe in the near future I will be able to assist someone as much as you have helped me.

Glad it is finally working for you and that i could help you with it!!
Unfortunately, there are a LOT of fake memory stick pro duo's around, many of which have the same problems you have had with yours! When you buy a new card, try to get it from a trusted retailer, such as a major store chain. It may cost a bit more, but you should be guarenteed a original product. I bought mine from amazon, one can be found HERE, or HERE if your in the US. However when buying from amazon, make sure that the item is "Dispatched/Ships from and Sold by Amazon.co.uk", as a lot of the other sellers though amazon do sell fake cards. Then you should have a original product, and have some comeback if it does turn out to be fake.
You could also try supermarkets such as Asda/Walmart to see if they sell them, and you may be able to get them a bit cheaper
As your a sega fan, if you search the website i linked you too for the Snes emulator for "DGEN", you should find the megadrive emulator on there, which will be a small enough file to run from your smaller memory card. You will also find other emulators for gameboy, GBA, and MAME on that site.
Again, im glad we managed to get this sorted out for you. Let me know if you have any more problems and we can try and get them sorted for you :).

Yeah, bummer for me that I got a bad stick, but at least I tried it and it will store and play MP3s on my PSP so it is not at total waste. One other thing that I noticed as I am downloading the emulators from the website you provided is that when there are two files taht I need to save xxxx and xxxx%, those do not work for me - either get the 80020148 error or a corrupt file, however the one like DGEN that has just one folder works great. Have you ever seen this? So far I have the DGEN, the SNES and NES emulators downloaded.
Thanks again,
S.D.

With the programs that have the xxxx and xxxx% folders all you need to do is put BOTH the xxxx and the xxxx% files into a folder (name this folder whatever the name of the program is, and then copy that into your x:\PSP\GAME folder on your memory stick. So for the DAEDALUS N64 emulator, the path would be x:\PSP\GAME\Daealus, and inside this folder would be your DAEDALUS and DAEDALUS% folders. Start up your PSP, go your memory card under the GAME section, and you should see 2 files named DAEDALUS (one will be normal and one will be corrupted data). Open the normal one, and the progam should load.
To get rid of the corrupted icon, start the PSP in recover mode, go to CONFIGURATION and enable the HIDE CORRUPT ICONS option.
If you are getting the "Game could not be Started" error, make sure you have the 1.50 kernel installed, which can be downloaded from . Follow the instructions in the README file to install the kernal (i have a slim, so unfortunately i cannot install the 1.50 kernel, so i am not 100% sure how to install it).
This should fix the problem, and all your homebrew programs should work fine.
Let me know how you get on with it, just give me a shout if you are having any more probs!
