Hi,

Earlier today i had a bit of spare time, so decided to try to install a new theme on my PSP. I have installed the applecore theme before, but was looking for something a bit different. Anyways...i backed up my Flash0, and tried to install the theme, however i did something wrong, and ended up with a semi-brick. So i entered recovery mode, and copied the complete Flash0 back from my backup onto the PSP. i exited recovery mode and booted up the PSP. the Sony screen came up, but then i got a blue screen which said something like "The operating files have become corrupt, press O to try to restore them." ( i cant remember the exact message, but it was something along those lines). It said this message in loads of different languages.
At this point i though it would be easier to just get out my TOOL battery and MMS and reflash the firmware, which i did, and it worked perfectly.

Now my only question is why did this happen? My Flash0 backup was made through the recovery menu, and i made sure hidden and protected operating system files were shown. I copied and pasted the directly from my PSP to my PC, and then straight back when i was trying to restore.

Is this the correct way to backup the flash, or did i miss something out? Could do with getting it right next time to avoid having to take the Pandora route again!

Thanks in advance,

IBIZAGTI

The blue screen you got is called the "Blue Screen Of Death" :)
I have a hard feeling that you must've got THIS screen
Well, it means that only the "flash 1" files must've got corrupted >_<
It could've been recovered by juz pressing "O" on your PSP :)
You'd have to set the "Time & Date", The "Name" of the PSP etc. after that though >_>

P.S : You've properly backup your "flash 0" files :)

Yes that was the screen i got!

However, the only files i changed were in flash0, i didnt even open flash1 up, so i dont know how i managed to mess them up lol.

Thanks for the info, at least i know if it happens again i dont need to get my pandora out again.

lolz :P
Well, happens :)

I'm assuming that some files of "flash 1" are related to "flash 0" and that changing some "flash 0" must not be corresponding to the respective "flash 1" files :)
That's why may be you must've got the "Blue Screen Of Death" :)

Ah right, that would make sense i suppose. I will have to make sure i back-up the Flash1 aswell next time i decide to mess about with it.

O on the "Blue Screen of Death", is it safe to press O to restore the settings? I remember reading somewhere that pressing O to correct settings when a certain error message came up resulted in a permanent brick, as the PSP got stuck in some kind of never-ending loop of some kind? I dont know if that relates to this blue screen or not though, so i just took the safe option and got my TOOL battery out.

Thanks for the advice!
