I'm having problems getting my PS2 to read anything while standing, but if i lay it down it reads everything with no problem. And i just finished repairing a friends ps2 and it now only reads games lying down. Im not sure if it did this in the first place but im just wondering if anyone has encountered this problem and if they know how to fix it.

Be ready for a lot of pain, or just put up with it.

When you open the drive take note.. there is a white cog at the back. Mark it so you know it's exact position before you do anything else. (it is on a click-stop) One or two clicks in either direction "should" solve the problem. To make life much easier you can take the white clamp piece out of the drive top casing while you find the right position.. instead of wearing out the drive top screws.. I stick it to the disk with tape just while testing. You will probably find it is only one or two clicks.. any more and the laser is getting weak.. There is another adjustment on the laser carriage itself, but I don't suggest touching it unless you have a very good oscilloscope.

Just tried that, with no luck. i even tried adjusting the little black screw that holds the laser in place. I dont think will will tamper with the laser power, but i wish i just knew what caused it.
